Do dungeons exist in The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom?

Fans of the series are enjoying trying out some of the new mechanics in The Legend of Zelda Tears of the Kingdom, which has now had its official release on the Nintendo Switch. Game Director Hidemaro Fujibayashi revealed that there will be dungeons in The Legend of Zelda Tears of the Kingdom in a Nintendo “Ask the Developer” interview.

Dungeons will be a significant part of the forthcoming franchise entry, he said, but they will operate far differently than they did in Breath of the Wild.

Fujibayashi noted,

“They’ve (dungeons) changed from the previous game. For example, there is a dungeon that connects directly from Hyrule’s surface. If you dive from the sky straight into the dungeon, you’ll trigger an event. We think this will be a new experience that wasn’t possible in the previous game.”

Due to the fact that the dungeons are specific to the settings in which they are found, there is a lot of variety in both their layout and the methods by which players might approach each one.

The four Divine Beast dungeons from Breath of the Wild were similar in design, while those from Tears of the Kingdom will be significantly distinct from one another, according to art director Satoru Takizawa, who also emphasized this in the interview.

Takizawa stated in the interview,

“This time, the dungeons are huge and each carry their own regional look and feel, just like traditional The Legend of Zelda games. We think they will provide a satisfying challenge for players. They were certainly a challenge to develop!”
