Upon settling in at Mikage Shrine, Nanami came to understand the responsibility that came with taking care of the shrine. As she was preparing to leave, she was suddenly approached by Tomoe and two other shrine spirits, who mistook her for their true master, the land god Mikage.

After recognizing their error, Tomoe rejected the idea of serving a human. As a result, Nanami was left with the responsibility of being the land god of Mikage Shrine while also balancing her studies as a high school student. Spending time with the charming spirit, Nanami began to develop romantic feelings for Tomoe. However, he ultimately rejected her due to his conceit.

Despite Tomoe’s initial reluctance, the tables soon turned as he found himself drawn to Nanami’s determination and positive attitude. However, he lacked the courage to express his feelings for her. As the series progressed, Nanami traveled back in time and witnessed the difficult upbringing that Tomoe had endured.

Upon meeting Yukiji, Nanami believed that she was the woman whom Tomoe loved, potentially explaining why he initially rejected Nanami. However, the same could be said for Tomoe, as the woman he encountered in the past was not Yukiji, but Nanami, whose diving in the past had also played a significant role in shaping their present circumstances.

Despite their initial mistakes, these two decided to start dating. However, Nanami’s high school posed a challenge, leading Tomoe to express his wish to transform into a human. In chapter 124 of Kamisama Kiss, Nanami announces her upcoming marriage to Tomoe.

The final OVA of the anime series, Kamisama Kiss: The God of the Eve of Marriage, depicted the events that followed. Following their engagement, Tomoe made the decision to transform into a human and a suitable date was chosen for this transformation.

Despite opposition from everyone due to Nanami’s status as a land god, it was agreed that Tomoe would become human after one year. This decision meant that Nanami would have to leave her duties as a land god and live a normal life with Tomoe.

When Nanami graduated from high school after a year, the spirits arrived to take her. At that moment, her marriage ceremony with Tomoe began. As they departed from the spirits, Nanami couldn’t hold back her tears.

Despite this, Tomoe promised to always keep Nanami happy. In a later scene, the series depicted a moment from their past where the couple strolled through a garden with their child in Nanami’s arms.
