Over the last decade, there has been a significant increase in South Korea’s cultural exports, exemplified by the dominance of groups like BTS and BLACKPINK on international music charts. Additionally, Korean dramas have gained immense popularity on streaming services.

The documentary “Kpop Idols”documents the journeys of artists as they embark on world tours, capturing emotional moments and showcasing their endurance during grueling rehearsals.

As teenagers, most Kpop idols undergo rigorous training and are subject to intense pressure and strict rules from their entertainment companies. The overwhelming pursuit of their dreams, coupled with constant scrutiny from the public, often leads to severe mental health issues. Tragically, some idols have resorted to taking their own lives in search of peace and relief.

The documentary highlights the Kpop industry’s recent endeavors to increase the genre’s international reach by enlisting talent from other countries. In June, the South Korean Ministry of Finance unveiled the Cultural Training Visa, a new visa program designed for foreigners interested in receiving training in dance, choreography, acting, and music.

Furthermore, the movie also tackles the issue of Kpop idols’ extreme and unscientific dieting methods.
