Giyu Tomioka has gained a huge fan base in the Demon Slayer series, particularly following the ‘Hashira Training’ arc. He is known for his reserved personality and tendency to isolate himself, leading many fans and Hashiras to believe he had a sense of superiority.
Despite the various discussions surrounding his character, the latest season provided fans with insight into the reason behind his behavior. This can be largely attributed to the Final Selection test that he was required to undergo. Additionally, his love life appears to be a popular topic among fans.
Despite the question being posed on various platforms, it is highly unlikely that Giyu Tomioka has any romantic feelings for Shinobu Kocho in the animanga series.
This article contains major spoilers from the manga chapters.
Does Giyu Tomioka have feelings for Shinobu Kocho?
The setting of Demon Slayer is a world where death is a constant presence, and as a result, the series does not heavily focus on romantic relationships. However, the manga has revealed the existence of several romantic relationships, as seen in the final chapter which delves into the lives of the next generation of demon hunters.
The chapter revealed that Tanjiro Kamado had a romantic relationship with Kanao Tsuyuri, Zenitsu Agatsuma with Nezuko Kamado, and Obanai Iguro with Mitsuri Kanroji. Unfortunately, both the Snake Hashira and Love Hashira perished during the battle against Muzan, leaving no descendants behind.
Having established that fact, it is worth noting that the manga does not explicitly confirm Giyu Tomioka’s romantic interest. In the canon, Giyu does not harbor any romantic feelings for Shinobu Kocho. This is due to the fact that the Demon Slayer manga does not explicitly mention any romantic involvement between Giyu and Shinobu. However, the reason behind the fanbase’s speculation of a potential relationship between the two characters is still valid.
Typically, fans will pair up characters based on their interactions. Initially, it was evident that Shinobu would purposely irritate Giyu, but it appeared to be done in an affectionate manner. Additionally, when Shinobu met her demise, it provoked a strong response from the Water Hashira.
Despite this, it is not justifiable for the two characters to engage in a romantic relationship within the series. Furthermore, in the final chapter, it is revealed that Giyu Tomioka has a descendant, but the child does not share any physical similarities with the Insect Hashira.
Similarly, the same pattern can be observed in Sanemi Shinazugawa. Although he also had a descendant, the child only bore a resemblance to the Wind Hashira. In contrast, in other instances, the offspring inherited features from both parents.
Keeping these points in consideration, it should be noted that the manga does not explicitly state the existence of a romantic relationship between the Water and Insect Hashira. Therefore, it can be assumed that Giyu Tomioka did not have any romantic feelings towards Shinobu Kocho and their interactions appeared to be purely professional.
