Despite its official release date of Monday, August 5, 2024, the much-anticipated finale of My Hero Academia was spoiled for fans when chapter 430 was leaked online days prior. This unfortunate event revealed the fate of Deku and all that is to come in the series’ conclusion.
As many fans may recall, one of the most intriguing unresolved storylines in the manga series is the mystery surrounding Deku’s father, Hisashi Midoriya. Despite numerous requests for a dedicated chapter on this topic, creator Horikoshi reassured fans that Hisashi’s identity would be revealed in due time.
After the manga series has come to an end, does the finale of My Hero Academia finally reveal the identity of Izuku Midoriya’s father?
Please note: This article includes spoilers from the My Hero Academia manga.
My Hero Academia Finale Leaves Fans Without Answers About Hisashi Midoriya
At the 2018 San Diego Comic-Con, manga author Kohei Horikoshi announced that he would eventually reveal the identity of Deku’s father, Hisashi Midoriya. However, six years later, the manga creator did not provide any information about Izuku’s father and concluded the series with an eight-year time skip.
As many fans may recall, My Hero Academia chapter 1 delved into Deku’s backstory. It was revealed in the manga that despite being born without a quirk, Deku’s mother Inko Midoriya possessed the ability to attract small objects to herself. Meanwhile, her husband Hisashi had the power to produce fire from his breath.
During this interaction, fans were quick to notice that Deku’s doctor Daruma Ujiko was actually Kyudai Garaki, the same doctor who works with the League of Villains. As a result, many fans speculated that the doctor had removed Deku’s quirk, leaving him without any powers.
Despite this, they continued to speculate that Deku’s father Hisashi may make an appearance in the manga to assist him in recovering his latent quirk, potentially fire breathing, after losing his One For All quirk embers. However, the manga never delved into this possibility, ultimately confirming that Deku was indeed born without a quirk.
The My Hero Academia finale featured a time skip of eight years in which Deku lost the remaining embers of his One For All quirk. Despite this setback, Deku still chose to become a teacher at U.A. High School after graduation, determined to use his experience and knowledge to aid others despite being quirkless.
Despite his efforts to find happiness in his current life, Deku secretly longed to be a hero once more. Recognizing his friend’s true feelings, All Might reached out to a colleague in the United States and collaborated with Mei Hatsume to create a special support item for Deku. Although the item came at a high cost, it was funded by Deku’s friends, particularly Katsuki Bakugo. Thanks to their support, Deku was able to resume his hero duties and fought alongside his Class A comrades once again.
Despite the possibility of the manga series including a specific manga panel dedicated to Hisashi Midoriya’s reveal, leaked manga pages do not contain any such illustrations. As a result, My Hero Academia fans can only hope that the manga creator will release a special chapter or illustration featuring Hisashi Midoriya in the future.
