Yuta Okkotsu was born on March 7, 2001. As a child, he became friends with Rika Orimoto, a girl from Sendai City, Miyagi Prefecture. Rika’s early life was filled with hardship; her mother passed away when she was only five years old, and her father died in a mountain climbing accident a year later due to unknown health complications. Despite these challenges, the two remained close friends.

After going through all of these events, Rika was summoned for an examination where she encountered Yuta, a patient battling pneumonia. Subsequently, her grandmother, who held Rika responsible for the passing of her parents, took her to see the doctor.

When Rika was 11 years old, she gave Yuta her mother’s ring as a birthday present, promising to marry him when they were older. However, her life was cut short when she died in a tragic motor accident. In the heat of the moment, Yuta inadvertently cursed Rika, causing her to become a powerful vengeful spirit.

For the next six years, Yuta found himself constantly dealing with the consequences of Rika’s violent tendencies, leading him to distance himself in order to shield others from her destructive behavior.

During their conversation about Rika, Gojo explains to Yuta that defeating a strong curse like Rika’s requires more than just a basic exorcism.

Yuta is tasked with untangling every knot of cursed energy that makes up Rika, his cursed spirit. In order to assist him, Gojo bestows a katana upon Yuta and clarifies that the only means of breaking the curse is by gradually infusing the cursed weapon with Rika’s energy.

At this moment, both Gojo and Yuta share the belief that Yuta is the victim of Rika’s curse, rather than being the one to curse her. In order to rid himself of the cursed spirit, Gojo proposes that Yuta transfer her energy into the katana and gain control over it. However, it is in fact Rika who is cursed and not Yuta. During the showdown with Geto Suguru, the katana shatters.

Yuta makes a promise to fully unleash Rika and her abilities in return for sparing his own life, utilizing a Binding Vow as a means of agreement.

In order to defeat Geto, he pledges to Rika that he will use her cursed energy one last time and promises to be with her for eternity. However, the curse can only be broken if the caster cancels the bond and the victim chooses to forgive them instead of seeking revenge.

Yuta’s decision to sacrifice and keep his promise ultimately severs the cursed bond, as Rika, who deeply cares for him, decides not to seek retribution, effectively breaking the curse. By coming to terms with her passing and releasing his grip, Yuta enables Rika to pardon him, and she expresses gratitude for the additional six years they were able to spend together.
