Does Zenith get her memories back in Mushoku Tensei? Explained

The Teleportation Incident in Mushoku Tensei had a devastating impact on several individuals, including Zenith Greyrat, the mother of the protagonist. Despite the loss of his father, Paul, the most devastating blow to Rudeus was discovering that his mother had also lost all of her memories and was unable to speak. As season 2 of Mushoku Tensei: Jobless Reincarnation ended on this shocking note, fans are now worried about Zenith’s chances of recovering from her condition and regaining her memories and ability to speak.

Despite the expectations of her fans, Zenith has not shown signs of improvement. She remains in a dream-like state, experiencing her life as if in a perpetual dream. In the end, Rudeus brings her to his home, where she spends the rest of her days.

After the passing of Paul, Rudeus becomes the sole remaining Greyrat from his father’s lineage, continuing his legacy and taking on the responsibilities he left behind. He also becomes the permanent caretaker of his sisters and welcomes Lilia into his home to assist with the care of Zenith and others. As fate would have it, Rudeus and Roxy eventually marry, with her becoming his second wife.

According to the light novel, which is further ahead in the storyline than the current state of the anime, Rudeus informed Claire that Zenith had been saved, but was now mentally incapacitated. In response, Claire, Zenith’s mother, sent a letter to Rudeus, asking him to bring Zenith to Millis. She promised to work on finding a cure for her daughter.

Despite this, her proposed method for finding a cure was more of a coincidence, as she draws parallels between Elinalis’s situation and that of her own daughter. Claire suggests that, like Elinalise, Zenith could potentially be cured through engaging in constant sexual relationships.

Upon discovering Claire’s intentions, Rudeus was filled with intense anger, leading all the nobles and ministers of the Millis region to gather in order to address the situation. It was eventually revealed that Claire was acting against Rudeus’ desires, but she was fortunately stopped in time. As a consequence, she was sentenced to imprisonment, prompting Zenith to slap Rudeus in spite of her own condition.

In the light novel of Mushoku Tensei, it is revealed that Zenith eventually gains the ability to communicate, but solely through telepathy and only with Lara, the daughter of Rudeus and Roxy. Due to her lack of memory from her past, Zenith does not react to Paul’s death, which is a heartbreaking moment for fans of the series.
