A Dollar General customer caused a stir when she successfully purchased multiple items from the store for only 1 penny each, but she is not the only one who has accomplished this – here’s the method behind it.
In her video, @supersimplesaver, a popular TikToker, brought her viewers along to Dollar General on a budget shopping trip. With a large following of over 100,000, her content focuses on money-saving strategies and using coupons.
In a viral video with over 3 million views, she filled her shopping cart with a variety of miscellaneous items. These items consisted of seven bottles of Accent flavoring, 11 containers of dry spaghetti noodles, five boxes of Bumble Bee Buffalo Style Chicken Salad, three cans of Sweet Sue Chicken & Dumplings, 10 packets of Clover Valley Hot Chili Seasoning Mix, and two packets of candy.
She additionally grabbed a coloring book, notebook, eight boxes of crayons, and four 12-count packs of 5-Hour Energy shots.
Despite being at Dollar General, viewers would still anticipate the TikToker to end up with a hefty bill, but this turned out not to be true.
She concluded the video by displaying her bill, which served as evidence that each item had been rung up for only one penny.

At Dollar General, Penny shopping has been a longstanding practice. This involves searching for items on the “Penny list,”which can be identified by a green dot underneath the price tag. In case of any uncertainty about an item’s price, scanning it through the store’s app will reveal the accurate amount.
Some Dollar General customers have found a way to buy several items for just one cent each, as they have shared in the comments: “In order for this to work, you will need to use the self-checkout machine. My local Dollar General’s self-checkout has conveniently been out of order for around a year.”
“According to another person, our stores prohibit penny shopping and do not permit us to purchase the items.”
The markdown process usually takes place on a Tuesday, but you will need to act quickly. The discounted items depend on stock that is expected to be cleared, so these bargains are only accessible for a brief period before they are sold out.
Acquiring a deal like this at Dollar Tree is becoming increasingly uncommon. In March, CEO Rick Dreiling disclosed that the renowned store will encounter increased expenses.
Dreiling disclosed that our multi-price assortment is set to expand by more than 300 items this year, spanning from $1.50 to $7, across 3,000 stores.
“Although our multi-price assortment will continue to grow, the majority of products sold in Dollar Tree stores will still be offered at our fixed entry-level price point.”
