Despite being the highly anticipated Disney hit of the year, Inside Out 2 has some unfortunate news for fans who prefer watching it at home.
Audiences can expect to experience a range of new emotions as Riley enters her teenage rebellion in Inside Out 2, delighting Disney fans.
Despite facing challenges during the pandemic, the animation powerhouse, Pixar, has been predicted to release one of the top films of 2024. However, fans will have to wait until at least September for the film to be available on Disney Plus.
In an interview with Bloomberg, Jim Morris, the president of Pixar, affirmed that Inside Out 2 will adhere to a 100-day theatrical release, signaling that fans may have to wait until the start of autumn at the earliest to stream the beloved emotions.
This exceeds the length of the studio’s previous cinema release Elemental, which lasted for a total of 89 days, and is twice the duration of the struggling Lightyear, which only lasted for 47 days.
The recent re-release of three pandemic films from the studio — Soul, Luca, and Turning Red — suggests a significant shift in the way Disney may release future movies, with Inside Out 2 possibly serving as a pivotal moment.
“Morris clarified that he does not wish for another feature film to be released on Disney+. Instead, he believes that any future content for the streaming platform should be in the form of a series. This would create a clear distinction between the content created for theaters and the content created for streaming.”
Interestingly, a spinoff series for Inside Out has been officially announced for a release on Disney Plus in 2025, coinciding with the debut of the animated show Win or Lose.
Despite the inconvenience of watching it at home, Disney fans remain hopeful that it signals the studio’s successful return to theaters.
According to a fan who posted on Reddit, this should become the norm for studios. They should refrain from taking advantage of their own success. Another fan also chimed in, stating that the film has already earned over $750 million and will continue to do so, making it the perfect excuse for parents to take a break from their daily routine and enjoy a day out with their kids.
