Don’t panic about Dafne Keen’s Deadpool & Wolverine cameo being spoiled – something bigger is coming

If the scent of chimichangas, gunpowder, and the distinct musk of a Canadian reaches your nose, it can only mean one thing: we are only a week away from the release of Deadpool and Wolverine.

It is indeed true that the highly anticipated MCU movie is almost here, and in honor of this special event, Marvel has decided to release a new trailer for Deadpool and Wolverine that reveals a major cameo in the film, much to the disappointment of some fans.

In particular, our focus is on the reappearance of Laura, also known as X-23 (played by Dafne Keen), the clone and daughter (it’s a complex situation, alright) of Wolverine. The last time we saw her, she was burying her beloved father at the conclusion of Logan.

The news of Laura’s return has caused a stir among the Marvel community, leaving many in disbelief that the studio would reveal such a major surprise. It’s comparable to spoiling the return of Doc Ock and other Spider-Man villains in No Way Home before the movie’s release.

Shock horror!

Wait a minute, didn’t they already do that?

Don’t worry, one spoiled cameo doesn’t mean there won’t be any other surprises in store for us. Just like in No Way Home, we were aware of the return of supervillains but were pleasantly surprised by the appearance of Peter 2 and Peter 3.

Why am I so certain that there will be more cameos? Because multiple sources on the internet, who attend a different school in Canada and are definitely real, have already informed scoopers that there are a plethora of exciting surprises in the movie that have yet to be revealed. So, there’s no need to fret about this reveal.

Naturally, I am not reliant on individuals with cartoon Twitter avatars to inform me of this fact. Nor do I require the remarkably precise mutant ability to foresee the events that unfold in movies featuring protagonists clad in spandex. My familiarity with Marvel films has taught me to expect larger plot twists in Deadpool and Wolverine, as this is the norm in the world of superhero movies.

You have seen a Marvel movie before right?

Marvel has a consistent pattern of including a cameo in their trailers to capture the interest of casual fans. However, they often save a bigger surprise appearance for the second or third act, which excites hardcore fans. This is a deliberate strategy that has become standard in movie marketing, and it surprises me that people still get so worked up about it.

I understand that having cameos like this can be frustrating for those who have already purchased a ticket, written a review on Letterboxd and have a ‘ #Deapool&Wolverine’ tweet prepared in their drafts. However, this is not about enticing you to go to the cinema. It’s about appealing to casual fans who are interested in the ‘Wolf-erine flick’ and want to know if the ‘little kid’ from the previous movie will make an appearance. So, there’s no need to worry. Marvel has a surprise in store.

I am unsure of what the wildcard is for Deadpool and Wolverine. Will we see the return of the original X-Men team? Could Logan and Wade find themselves in the X-Men ’97 universe? Or will Reynolds manage to go 20 minutes without promoting his gin?

As of writing, it is impossible to predict the magnitude of the surprise that awaits. However, I can guarantee one thing. The return of X-23 in the film will be an even bigger shock and will be more enjoyable than when Reed Richards made an appearance in Multiverse of Madness. I know some may have feigned dislike on social media, but let’s be honest, deep down you loved it.
