On November 1, 2024, TV Asahi made an exciting announcement: the beloved Doraemon anime will unveil a brand-new opening theme sequence starting November 9, 2024. This change is part of the celebrations for the franchise’s remarkable 45th anniversary of its film series, which is set for 2025. The new opening will take the place of the current theme, which has been gracing screens since October 2019.
The upcoming opening sequence promises to deliver a nostalgic experience by showcasing memorable moments from the extensive collection of films within the Doraemon franchise. Accompanying these visuals will be the song Yume wo Kanaete Doraemon, performed by Mao, which previously served as the third opening theme for the current TV series.
Significant Transition: New Opening Sequence After Five Years
According to details shared on TV Asahi’s official website, the refreshed opening sequence aims to honor the 45-year legacy of the film series. Premiering on November 9, 2024, it will include captivating clips from both classic and contemporary films in the Doraemon universe, designed to engage long-time fans and new audiences alike.
In addition to iconic visuals, the new opening will also feature a fresh interpretation of Mao’s Yume wo Kanaete Doraemon. TV Asahi has hinted that various renditions of this theme will be introduced, providing fans with a diverse listening experience to accompany the beloved anime.
It is noteworthy that the outgoing opening sequence, featuring the hit song by Gen Hoshino, has been a staple since its debut in October 2019. This beloved theme will air for the last time on November 2, 2024, before being succeeded by the new sequence. A creditless version of Hoshino’s song will thereafter be made available on the franchise’s official YouTube channel.
To commemorate this transition, the franchise’s official X account (formerly known as Twitter) shared a heartfelt image featuring the iconic robotic cat. The visual expresses gratitude towards Gen Hoshino for his contributions, playfully showcasing Doraemon nodding in approval, dubbing the song a “good song.”
