Doraemon Voice Actress Passes Away at 90 Years Old

Nobuyo Ōyama, the talented voice actress renowned for her role as Doraemon, has passed away at the age of 90.

Doraemon has captivated audiences worldwide as one of the most cherished children’s anime characters, with Ōyama lending her voice to this iconic figure for over 25 years, from 1979 to 2005.

The narrative follows a blue and white robotic cat sent from the 22nd century to assist Nobita as he navigates various challenges, armed with futuristic gadgets.

Ōyama died of natural causes on September 29, 2024, but the announcement of her passing was not made public until October 11, 2024.

Prior to her role in Doraemon, she provided her voice to one of three piglets in a beloved puppet show for children during the early 1960s and portrayed the youth Katsuo in the family-friendly anime series Sazaesan.

While she showcased her skills in projects like Hustle Punch and Andersen Monogatari, Ōyama’s legacy is most profoundly tied to her work on Doraemon.

The anime community is mourning her loss, with fans expressing their condolences. One user remarked, “Her legendary voice and depiction of the lovable blue cat will be cherished by many generations. She will be sorely missed.”
