In just a matter of hours, Dragon Age: The Veilguard has set a new record by surpassing all of EA’s previous single-player offerings on Steam.
The long-awaited Dragon Age: The Veilguard has arrived, and it is debuting to impressive results. Representing BioWare’s first venture back into Thedas in nearly ten years, its return has been received positively, as noted in our review.
Initial marketing efforts for the game raised some concerns regarding its potential success, leading to speculation about its commercial and critical reception. The discussions surrounding the title have been quite polarized, and many gamers are now questioning whether some early critics may have been too quick to dismiss it.
It seems they were mistaken, as a wave of favorable reviews has significantly boosted sales of Dragon Age: The Veilguard beyond what was initially anticipated. This surge in interest is evident in the game’s Steam player count, which has outpaced every other single-player title released by EA on the platform.
As of this writing, Dragon Age: The Veilguard has recorded a peak player count of 70,414. This surge has allowed it to surpass notable titles including Mass Effect Legendary Edition and the previous record holder, Star Wars Jedi Survivor, which peaked at 67,855.
With the weekend approaching, it is anticipated that player numbers will climb even higher, especially since the game launched on a weekday. Notably, this is the first title from EA and BioWare that has debuted on Steam simultaneously with other platforms; earlier releases mandated launching through the EA app.
In addition to achieving a remarkable player count for a title from EA and BioWare, Dragon Age: The Veilguard has also dethroned Call of Duty: Black Ops 6, making it the current best-selling game on the platform.
