On Monday, September 2, 2024, Fuji TV revealed their October programming schedule, which included the premiere of Dragon Ball DAIMA on Friday, October 11, 2024, at 11:40 PM JST. The show will air every Friday, with the first episode being extended by 10 minutes.
Dragon Ball DAIMA was specially created to celebrate the 40th anniversary of the Dragon Ball manga. It is the first anime in the series to be released after a six-year gap since the conclusion of Dragon Ball Super in March 2018. The late creator of the original manga, Akira Toriyama, oversaw the development of the story, characters, and overall setting.
Upcoming Premiere of Dragon Ball DAIMA on October 11
On Monday, September 2, 2024, Fuji TV revealed their lineup for October 2024 at their Odaiba headquarters. As part of their announcement, the national network announced a new anime time slot for Dragon Ball DAIMA, which is set to premiere on October 11, 2024 and will air every Friday at 11:40 PM JST.
However, the first episode will be expanded by 10 minutes, which sets it apart from the other episodes.
During the announcement, the head of the programming department, Yuichi Nakajima, disclosed that all episodes of Dragon Ball DAIMA are prepared for airing.
Nakajima further discussed the change in time slot for the anime. In the past, Dragon Ball anime (Dragon Ball Kai and Dragon Ball Super) was regularly broadcasted on Sunday mornings. However, with the addition of DAIMA, the anime would now be airing on Friday evenings.
According to Nakajima, the goal was to make it more convenient for Dragon Ball fans to watch the anime. The decision to air the show on Friday nights expanded its reach to all of Japan. However, this was not the case for Sunday mornings, as some areas did not have access to the broadcast. Therefore, the change in schedule was intended by Fuji TV executives to improve accessibility for the anime’s target audience.
