The latest installment of the animated series, Dragon Ball DAIMA, has recently debuted its 15th episode, and it’s safe to say that fans are feeling disappointed. This episode marks a stark departure from the series’ previously high-quality offerings, leaving viewers questioning the creative direction of the show.
In this article, we will delve into the various factors that contributed to the perceived decline in episode 15’s quality. We will also highlight critical feedback from the global fanbase regarding plot progression and inconsistencies within the narrative. Please be advised that this article contains spoilers for those who have not yet watched the episode.
1. Goku’s Unexplained Power Decrease
Earlier episodes of Dragon Ball DAIMA showcased Goku’s formidable powers as he effortlessly battled the Gendarmerie, the royal palace’s military police. In those scenes, Goku displayed remarkable strength, even using his Super Saiyan form to defeat various foes, including the formidable Tamagami.
However, episode 15 presents a bewildering contrast—Goku struggles against the same Gendarmerie soldiers he previously vanquished without breaking a sweat. It defies logic when Goku remarks that fighting in his smaller, childlike body is a challenge, despite having acclimated to this new form. Such inconsistencies not only baffle viewers but also tarnish the legacies of Goku and his allies, including the talented fighter Glorio, who also appeared less competent in their skirmishes.

2. Deterioration of Fight Quality
Prior episodes of Dragon Ball DAIMA painted Goku as an indomitable force, a warrior capable of overcoming major threats like Tamagami and Majin Buu. Yet, the latest episode disappoints fans by showcasing Goku struggling against the imperial guards. The disparity between this portrayal and the character’s established prowess is jarring, making the fight scenes feel less thrilling.

It’s reasonable to assume that a swift battle would have ensued had Goku decided to tap into his Super Saiyan abilities right from the start. Instead, both Goku and Vegeta found themselves in precarious situations, needing assistance from Pansy and her father. This plot turn raises questions about the coherence of character power levels and continuity.
3. King Gomah’s Unwarranted Power Surge
A particularly perplexing moment in episode 15 arises when King Gomah inexplicably gains significant power without any justification. The anime introduces an artifact called the evil third eye in a manner that feels rushed and unsatisfactory. While Goku embarked on a treacherous journey across three demon realms to reclaim his adult form, Gomah acquires a potent artifact with minimal effort.

The comedic nature of Gomah obtaining the evil third eye—through Degesu’s dubious seduction tactics—seems out of character for the series and further detracts from the overall narrative coherence.
4. Anticipations for Episode 16
The discrepancies present in the latest episode may have been an attempt to introduce special forces previously mentioned in the series. Given Goku’s established power level, it seems plausible that the writers temporarily diminished his abilities to create a more tangible threat posed by King Gomah’s special troops, aiming to heighten the tension in the story.
Additionally, notable figures like Degesu and Dr. Arinsu appear to be concealing secrets. While Degesu’s intentions remain vague, Arinsu is clearly concocting a plan that revolves around the dragon balls, albeit her motives do not prioritize the welfare of the Demon World.
5. Overview of Dragon Ball DAIMA
Dragon Ball DAIMA represents the fifth anime installment within the beloved Dragon Ball franchise, announced at the Dragon Ball Special Panel during the New York Comic Con 2023. The series is slated for a fall 2024 premiere.
Crafted under the guidance of Akira Toriyama, the original creator of Dragon Ball, the series navigates complex themes with a blend of adventure and action. The term “Daima”is unique; while it can be interpreted as “Evil”in English, its kanji conveys the concepts of “great”and “demon/magic.”
The overarching narrative follows Goku and his allies who find themselves transformed into smaller versions of themselves due to a conspiracy, leading them into an exhilarating yet unknown world filled with challenges.
