Dragon Ball Sparking Zero Guide: Character Transformations, Fusions & Switching Mechanics

Dragon Ball Sparking Zero boasts an extensive roster of incredible characters. However, mastering the nuances of switching between characters, fusing your beloved fighters, or evolving them into their Super Saiyan forms can present a challenge.

While engaging in missions and battles is a core element of the game’s excitement, there are moments when an enhanced power level is essential—be it through fusion or a character’s transformation. After all, if a Super Saiyan capability exists in a game like Dragon Ball, it should be utilized!

Yet, the process of changing characters, transforming, and fusing can be somewhat complicated in Sparking Zero, especially as the game provides limited guidance. With that in mind, here’s a clear guide on how to execute all three actions effectively.

Transforming Your Character

To execute a transformation in Dragon Ball Sparking Zero, you first need to accumulate the necessary Skill Counts. For smaller enhancements, just one or two Skill Counts may suffice; however, to elevate Goku from his base form to Super Saiyan, you will need three counts.

As you engage in combat and gather Skill Counts, pay attention for a small blue marker that appears beneath your character, resembling a blue circle accented with an upward arrow. This indicates your character is primed for transformation.

To initiate the transformation, follow these commands:

  • Xbox: Press up on the D-Pad to access the Transformation Menu, followed by pressing X, Y, A, or B to select the desired transformation.
  • PS5: Press up on the D-Pad to open the menu, then press X, Triangle, Circle, or Square to proceed with the change.

Eligible Characters for Transformation

In Sparking Zero, only certain characters are able to undergo transformations. These include:

  • All Saiyans
  • Frieza
  • Jiren
  • Cooler
  • Lord Slug
  • Bojack
  • Janemba
  • Zarbon
  • Top

A convenient way to determine if your chosen character can transform is to refer to the character select screen and observe the ‘Transformation Information‘ located above their technique details. If you see a face icon enclosed in a circle, it indicates that the character is capable of transforming.

Fusing Characters in Dragon Ball Sparking Zero

The fusion process in Dragon Ball Sparking Zero mirrors that of transformation, requiring players to have the appropriate Skill Counts to trigger it.

Once the blue circle appears on the top left corner of your display, follow these steps to fuse:

  • Xbox: Press up on the D-Pad to open the transformation options, then select LB or RB to access the Fusion Menu. Press X, Y, A, or B to choose your Fusion partner.
  • PS5: Press up on the D-Pad, then hit L1 or R1 to cycle to the Fusion Menu and select X, Triangle, Circle, or Square.

Reverting to Normal Characters Post-Fusion

Unfortunately, once you perform a fusion, you cannot revert back to your original character. However, after concluding a battle, your character will return to its normal state.

This means it’s essential to make thoughtful choices regarding your fusions, as you will need to complete fights using the newly formed character.

Switching Between Characters

Switching characters in Dragon Ball Sparking Zero is quite similar to the processes of fusion and transformation. The key difference is that you need to press left on your D-Pad rather than up.

To change characters during team battles, follow these steps:

  • Xbox: Press left on the D-Pad and select the desired character by pressing X, Y, A, or B.
  • PS5: Press left on the D-Pad followed by X, Triangle, Circle, or Square to choose your character.

Be careful to wait until the change icon illuminates before making a switch; otherwise, you may end up executing back-to-back changes.

And there you have it—everything you need to know about how to switch characters, fuse, and transform in Dragon Ball Sparking Zero.
