Dragon Ball: Vegeta’s greatest flaw in Cell Saga was essential to his growth

Despite being a beloved character from the Shonen series Dragon Ball, Vegeta also had his fair share of regrettable moments. Nevertheless, it can be argued that these moments ultimately contributed to his growth as a warrior and solidified his place as a fan-favorite character that is still cherished by fans today.

During the Cell Saga, Vegeta’s overconfidence in his strength led to one of his most devastating moments. He allowed Imperfect Cell to find and absorb Android 18, causing not only him to kick his own son Trunks aside but also resulting in Cell beating him mercilessly as he reached his Perfect form.

It was clear from the events of the Cell Saga that Vegeta’s decision to let Imperfect Cell absorb Android 18 was a critical mistake. This ultimately led to Cell achieving his Perfect form, making him stronger than both Vegeta and Trunks.

Despite the fact that both the father and son were individually stronger than Imperfect Cell just moments prior, their downfall in this scenario was their own foolishness. Vegeta, driven by his Saiyan pride, believed that his evolved Super Saiyan form would be enough to defeat Cell, even if he were to ascend into his final form. However, his overconfidence proved to be his downfall as Cell swiftly defeated him after absorbing Android 18.

Despite the anger of fans towards Vegeta’s mistake, his actions were consistent with his personality as both an individual and a Saiyan. Throughout the series, it has been shown multiple times that Saiyans become overconfident when they achieve a new form.

To everyone’s surprise, both Goku and Gohan also demonstrated this same flaw during their battles against formidable enemies. For instance, during their fight against Frieza on Namek, Goku even requested the Evil Emperor to unleash his full power and engage in a fierce battle.

Luckily, Frieza’s maximum power was not greater than Goku’s own strength. In the Cell Saga, Gohan had the potential to defeat Cell shortly after transforming into a Super Saiyan 2. However, his determination to make Cell suffer ultimately resulted in Goku’s untimely demise.

Therefore, it can be said that Vegeta’s actions during the Cell Saga were consistent with his true character. As avid followers of the series are aware, Vegeta’s pride was evident from the beginning, even during the Saiyan Saga. Thus, it was no surprise that after achieving an ascended Super Saiyan state, he would exhibit overconfidence in his abilities.

Despite Vegeta’s flaw in the Cell Saga, it ultimately led to his growth as a warrior. After his mistake against Cell, he never again underestimated his opponents and consistently gave his all to defeat them quickly. This transformation was clearly demonstrated at the conclusion of the Cell Saga.

Despite his pride as a warrior, Vegeta would never have intervened in a battle. However, upon realizing that his actions could lead to his son’s death, he was willing to set aside his emotions. This led him to interfere in the fight between Perfect Cell and Super Saiyan 2 Gohan, ultimately allowing Gohan to defeat Cell with his powerful Kamehameha wave.
