The original Dragon Quest games that launched the series will be making their way to the Nintendo Switch with updated graphics. The Erdrick trilogy, consisting of Dragon Quest III HD-2D and Dragon Quest I-II HD-2D, will soon be available for release.
The first three installments of Dragon Quest have been made available on numerous gaming systems. The 2D-HD remakes greatly enhance the graphics, aligning them with the high-quality sprites and 3D backgrounds seen in the Octopath Traveler series.
Despite the addition of a fresh visual style in the upcoming rereleases, these classic titles should still maintain their turn-based gameplay and stories. The question remains, when will people be able to play them?
Dragon Quest III HD-2D Release Date
The highly anticipated Dragon Quest III HD-2D will be released on November 7, 2024 for Nintendo Switch. This exciting news gives fans the opportunity to embark on the adventure during the holiday season.
Dragon Quest III HD-2D Trailers
The announcement for Dragon Quest III HD-2D was made during the series’ 35th anniversary celebration. The official Japanese Square Enix YouTube channel features the initial trailer for the game.
The June 2024 Nintendo Direct featured the latest trailer, which is now available on the Nintendo UK YouTube channel. This trailer included the long-awaited announcement of the game’s release date, as well as the reveal for the highly anticipated Dragon Quest I-II HD-2D.

Dragon Quest III HD-2D: A New Adventure through Story and Gameplay
Dragon Quest III HD-2D continues the journey of the protagonist, the offspring of a warrior known as Ortega. Ortega had perished while attempting to vanquish the formidable Baramos. On the protagonist’s sixteenth birthday, they are entrusted with the task of completing their father’s quest and defeating Baramos once and for all.
Dragon Quest III HD-2D includes a character class system that allows you to recruit hirelings into your party and customize their roles and skills to your preference.
Similar to previous entries in the Dragon Quest series, Dragon Quest III HD-2D also utilizes a turn-based combat system. The only difference in the updated version is its visual appearance. It remains uncertain if any additional content will be included.
Dragon Quest I & II HD-2D Release Date & Trailers
The highly anticipated Dragon Quest I-II HD-2D is set to release in 2025. At present, there have been no trailers or gameplay footage revealed, aside from its initial appearance in the aforementioned Dragon Quest III HD-2D trailer.
