Capcom has responded to complaints about the Dragon Plague in Dragon’s Dogma 2 with a funny and detached social media post that downplays the problem.
For those lucky enough not to have felt its bite, the Dragon Plague is a mechanic that has terrorized players in Dragon’s Dogma 2. It is a disease that afflicts Pawns and causes them to massacre entire villages, including those who give quests as well as vendors.
The Insurgents then take no risks and sacrifice their Pawns at the slightest indication of illness. However, many players have denounced this mechanic for the constant angst it injects into the game, with some even demanding changes.
The Capcom team saw the community reaction to Dragon’s Dogma 2 and offered a response. In a post on the Dragon’s Dogma 2 X/Twitter account, the developers launched an amusing dig at the hordes of Insurgents distressed by the Dragon Plague.

A Reddit thread discussing the post, aptly titled “They Don’t Care,”saw players discussing the mechanic and Capcom’s indifference. The main concern that most Insurgents had is the current method of curing the Dragon Plague.
“I just want an option to heal her so I can stop throwing my pawn off a cliff and waiting for it to die.””, explained a player. “I like the idea, I don’t like the execution. It goes against the game since the only method to ‘heal’ involves disengaging from the game loop that involves building bonds with your Pawns,” replied another.
However, not everyone is as frustrated with the Dragon Plague. Some players actually appreciate the mechanism for sharpening their attention to detail in Dragon’s Dogma 2.
“I like. This forces me to be careful, and has serious consequences if I don’t. It’s fun, if only for the immersion and shock,” argued an Awakened. “I like this. There’s really nothing else like it. I also fucking love throwing Pals into a river,” reasoned another, more sadistic player.
If you see this cutscene when you’re resting in an inn, it’s game over… For about seven in-game days at least.
Love or hate the Dragonsplague, it doesn’t look like it’s going to disappear from Dragon’s Dogma 2. Capcom put it in for a reason and it looks like that reason might just be to laugh at all our misery.
