Drama Criticized For Absurd Details Of Actress Daughter Taking Nude Photos To Pay Mother’s Debts

On May 12th, the latest episode of KBS 2TV’s weekend drama “Beauty and Mr. Romantic”featured the highly anticipated reunion of Park Do-ra (Im Soo-hyang), who goes by the name Kim Ji-young, and Go Pil-seung (Ji Hyun-woo), who made his official debut as a director.

After making a drastic decision, Do-ra was miraculously saved by her neighbor Lee Soon-jung (Lee Joon-sil), who mistook her for her own granddaughter, Kim Ji-young. Upon learning of Do-ra’s serious condition, Soon-jung generously paid for her to undergo full-body reconstruction surgery. When Do-ra woke up from the surgery, she had no recollection of her past. At that moment, Soon-jung declared, “You are now Kim Ji-young, my granddaughter. You will be living as her from now on.”

In the previous episode, the audience was taken aback when top actress Park Do-ra made a radical decision following her loss of popularity.

Do-ra found herself in a predicament where she had no choice but to depend on chaebol Gong Jin-dan(Go Yoon) to settle the gambling debts of her mother Baek Mi-ja’s (Cha Hwa-yeon). Due to her mother’s influence, Park Do-ra began her career as a child actress and has been working in the industry for 15 years, providing for her family as the sole provider.

Despite her reservations, Baek Mi-ja attempted to give her daughter to Gong Jin-dan, who had a fixation on Do-ra. In an effort to pay off her mother’s debts, Do-ra reluctantly agreed to pose for nude photos and earn a substantial amount of money. However, she couldn’t handle the situation and ended up storming out of the studio in frustration. Witnessing her daughter’s distress, Mi-ja turned to Gong Jin-dan for assistance.

Afterwards, Do-ra informed Go Pil-seung (Ji Hyun-woo) of her plans to marry Gong Jin-dan and bid him farewell. Initially, Do-ra had agreed to the engagement in order to settle her mother’s debt, but eventually decided to call it off. This decision led Gong Jin-dan to accuse Do-ra of accepting sponsorship, resulting in a scandal that ruined her career and ultimately drove her to jump into the sea.

Learning of Do-ra’s passing, Pil-seung was overcome with panic. Overwhelmed with guilt for his inability to save Do-ra, he sought solace by the sea and wept.

According to reports, the broadcast achieved an 18.3% viewership and surpassed its previous record. Additionally, the drama claimed the top spot among Sunday programs, solidifying its increasing popularity.

Despite its success in ratings, there are concerns among certain viewers about the unconventional development presented in “Beauty and Mr. Romantic”amidst the cliché conflict, especially considering that the show is only halfway through its 50-episode broadcast.

Despite having only aired a few episodes, “Beauty and Mr. Romantic”has already sparked numerous complaints from viewers regarding its provocative content and unrealistic plot developments. This is particularly concerning as the show is marketed as a weekend drama meant to be enjoyed by families of all ages. Several viewers have expressed their disappointment, noting that the drama is falling into the same issues as previous failed shows with its depiction of unethical parents and suggestive scenes.
