A McDonald’s employee has recently gained attention online after sharing a pet peeve of drive-thru customers that might irritate their staff.
The fast-food worker, known as “maccaworkaddict” on TikTok, was seen dancing with a caption stating, “You can’t keep ignoring the car in the drive-thru because they screamed hello as soon as they get there.”
This behavior can be frustrating for McDonald’s drive-thru employees because each time a new vehicle approaches the kiosk, the staff receives an automatic buzzing alert through the intercom, signaling someone is ready to order. Thus, customers don’t need to say ‘hello’ upon arrival.

Several other drive-thru employees supported the sentiments expressed in the video. A Burger King staff member mentioned that customers often “start yelling” as soon as she “puts the headset on.”
Another worker humorously claimed that “each time they say hello I make them wait another 10 seconds lol.”
Maccaworkaddict later commented that the video was meant to be taken lightheartedly and was “just a joke.”
She also clarified that it’s perfectly acceptable for customers to say “hello” at the drive-thru if they had pulled up and hadn’t been greeted or communicated with by the staff yet.
After the video went viral, Maccaworkaddict decided to delete her TikTok account.
McDonald’s drive-thru operations have been a trending conversation throughout 2024. In June, the chain announced the closure of over 100 AI-powered drive-thrus, which had been implemented starting in 2021.
A spokesperson from McDonald’s noted that decisions regarding automated ordering will be finalized by the end of this year but emphasized that “a voice-ordering solution for drive-thru will be an essential part of our restaurants’ future.”
