“Drunk Driving” BTS’s Suga Faces New Allegations of Missing License Plate and Mandatory Insurance

The latest allegations state that the electric scooter he was operating did not have a license plate and was not protected by mandatory insurance.

On August 19th, a post titled “Request Formal Investigation into the Suga Case”on the online community DC Inside caught the public’s attention.

The author has reported filing a complaint through the National Petition Portal to the Yongsan Police Station, calling for a thorough investigation into the registration and insurance status of the scooter. They have requested that strict penalties be enforced if any illegal activities are found.

The complaint refers to Suga’s statement on August 7th in which he claimed he was unaware that electric kickboards (electric scooters) were prohibited under drunk driving laws and therefore he violated traffic regulations. This implies that his lack of knowledge regarding the legalities of electric scooters is questionable and raises concerns about the absence of a license plate and mandatory insurance.

If it is determined that Suga’s electric scooter was not registered for motorcycle use, he may be subject to a fine of 500,000 won under Article 84 (Fines) Section 4 Item 18 of the Automobile Management Act and Article 20 (Imposition of Fines) of the Enforcement Decree of the Automobile Management Act. Additionally, if it is confirmed that he did not have mandatory insurance, he could face a maximum penalty of one year in prison or a fine of up to 10 million won under Article 46 (Penalties) Section 3 Item 2 of the Automobile Liability Compensation Act.

On August 6th, Suga was discovered alone and fallen while riding an electric scooter in the Yongsan area. Nearby police officers assisted him and noticed the odor of alcohol, resulting in his transfer to the local police patrol unit.

Shortly after the initial report, Suga and Big Hit Music released a statement apologizing for the incident and clarifying that Suga was using an “electric kickboard”. However, further investigation revealed that he was actually riding an “electric scooter”with a seat, leading to speculation that the apology was an attempt to downplay the severity of the situation.

Additionally, despite Suga’s claim to police that he had consumed only one beer, his blood alcohol concentration was discovered to be 0.227%. This was well above the legal limit for license suspension (0.08%), causing a decline in public opinion.

This week, the police intend to confirm Suga’s summons schedule and carry out a thorough investigation of the drunk driving incident.
