Dumbledore Actor’s Son Criticizes HBO’s “Pointless” Harry Potter Television Series

<p>Jared Harris, the son of the late Richard Harris who famously portrayed Professor Dumbledore in the first two Harry Potter films, believes that HBO’s anticipated reboot of the franchise is unnecessary.

After years of development, the much-talked-about Harry Potter TV show has finally entered pre-production, with a casting call released for the major roles in the series.

While the reboot aims to introduce new talent to the wizarding world, there is also a significant demand for some familiar faces to return to their beloved characters from the films.

Sadly, some original cast members of Harry Potter, including Richard Harris, who played the iconic Professor Dumbledore, have passed away since the movies were made.

Fans speculated whether Jared Harris, known for his roles in Chernobyl and The Terror, would consider stepping into his father’s shoes. However, when The Independent asked him about taking on the role, he declined, stating, “No, thank you.”

Harris further expressed his bewilderment, stating, “Also, I mean, why do it? I don’t understand. The films were fantastic – leave them alone.”

This sentiment resonates with many online, as fans express confusion over the decision to adapt J.K. Rowling’s beloved books into a new television series when the existing eight films are readily available for viewing.

One fan shared their perspective, expressing, “A Harry Potter TV show is a terrible idea. You want a 1:1 adaptation of the books? You need to see subplots like ‘Hermione tries to free slaves but they LOVE being slaves’ and ‘Harry and Ron do so much homework?’” on X/Twitter via this post.

Another fan articulated their mixed feelings, stating, “Part of me is happy it’s gonna get fleshed out more, but it’s upsetting we don’t have enough new ideas these days that we constantly gotta go back to reboot things that genuinely don’t need a reboot.”

HBO’s Harry Potter series is projected to span at least a decade, as Warner Bros., the studio behind the intellectual property, aims to adapt each of Rowling’s seven books comprehensively, something that the film adaptations could not achieve due to their time constraints.

If Jared Harris isn’t interested in reprising his father’s iconic role, one of the original Harry Potter actors is eager to step in: Gary Oldman has publicly expressed his desire to portray the esteemed wizard, Dumbledore.
