Dune 2 budget: how much did Denis Villeneuve’s film cost?

Dune: Part II is about to be released in cinemas around the world, and we now know how much the budget for the blockbuster is.

Denis Villeneuve made the decision to divide Frank Herbert’s novel, Dune, into two parts in order to better integrate the monument of literature – and more generally, of pop culture – into his story on the big screen. And after a first part which created great enthusiasm among the public, Villeneuve’s work will soon return to theaters for its sequel.

Beyond the successful bet on the critical side, the strategy also bore fruit when it came to finances. Because the first part was a real success at the box office in 2021, the theaters were always full, and brought in nearly 400 million dollars for a budget estimated at 165 million greenbacks.

Dune: Part II has already been announced as a big piece, filled with scenes each more epic than the last. But how much did the big screen show cost?

What is the budget for Dune: Part Two?

According to Variety, Dune: Part II cost around $190 million, a bit more than the previous installment.

If Denis Villeneuve’s film succeeds as well as its predecessor, Warner Bros. will therefore be a winner again. Finally, another point to take into account is a slight disadvantage when exiting the first Dune.

Because at the time, if the film was an exclusive for cinemas in most countries, it was not the same for everyone: in the United States for example, the feature film was also broadcast on HBO Max from the first day of screenings. Which will not be the case for Dune: Part Two.

See you on February 28, 2024 to discover the rest of Dune!
