Valgavoth, Terror Eater is a recently released mono-black Commander that is guaranteed to strike fear into your MTG opponents with its incredible strength, ability to be cast without mana, and the most formidable Ward in all of Magic.
Valgavoth, the latest villain to join Magic: The Gathering’s vast collection of rogues, must make a significant impact to measure up against formidable foes such as Nicol Bolas, Elesh Norn, Ob Nixilis, and others.
Thankfully, this all-encompassing demon has stepped up to the challenge, spreading its insatiable and corrupting influence throughout Duskmourn. This formidable menace makes multiple appearances throughout Duskmourn and its accompanying Commander decks, with Valgavoth, Terror Eater being the most formidable manifestation to date.
Valgavoth, Terror Eater earns its reputation as Duskmourn’s biggest threat
Valgavoth, the Terror Eater has an incredibly high mana cost of 6BBB. For a Magic card to be worth nine mana, it would need to possess significant and powerful abilities. However, Valgavoth’s reanimation capabilities are extraordinary and would be overpowered without the substantial cost.
While Valgavoth, Terror Eater is on the field, any cards belonging to opponents that would normally go to the graveyard are instead exiled. This prevents them from being retrieved through graveyard interaction, unless it is done through Valgavoth’s own ability.
During your turn, you have the option to play any cards that have been exiled by Valgavoth. Instead of paying its regular casting cost, you can pay a life amount equivalent to the card’s mana value. Although this may typically decrease your life total significantly, Valgavoth, Terror Eater’s Flying and Lifelink abilities as a powerful 9/9 creature ensure that you will always have enough resources to spare.
Valgvoth is comparable to other colossal Creatures such as the Eldrazi titans in both cost and power. Additionally, its Ward ability is reminiscent of the feared Annihilator ability possessed by the Eldrazis.
Valgavoth, Terror Eater can be a difficult target for your opponents to attack with a spell or ability, as they will have to sacrifice 3 nonland permanents in order to do so. Even though it is possible to use tokens to meet this requirement in certain decks, Valgavoth will usually remain on the battlefield due to the high cost it imposes.
Ever since the first teasers for the set, MTG players have been building up the anticipation for Valgavoth and other terrifying creatures like Duskmourn. The demon, known for its formidable stats and abilities, has certainly lived up to the hype, feasting on the fear of its opponents.
