At first glance, a Loan Base Icon Player Pick appears to be a rather straightforward Squad Building Challenge (SBC), but players quickly recognized its significant implications for the inaugural FUT Champs weekend league in EA FC 25.
As part of FC 25’s Ultimate Team daily content rollout on Wednesday, EA unveiled Team of the Week 3 along with a Loan Base Icon Player Pick. For the cost of an 84 overall squad, players can choose one of three Icon options for a temporary 10-match loan. This SBC is quite affordable at around 13,500 coins, making it accessible for players at various budget levels.
If players strike lucky, they could potentially feature ICONs such as the 95 overall Pele, 93 Ronaldinho, or 93 Johan Cruyff in their squad. Ironically, EA has reduced the number of FUT Champs matches from 20 to 15, allowing players to enjoy these ICONs for a majority of the weekend league.
The first round of FUT Champs begins this Friday, October 4, providing an ideal chance to utilize these loans. Community members express concerns about facing some of Ultimate Team’s top cards just a week after the game officially launched on September 27.
Most FC 25 players should find completing this SBC manageable.
DonkTrading identified this SBC and pointed out how it coincidentally aligns with FUT Champs.
One player shared a concerning scenario of being 14-0 and then having to face an opponent with a loan 94 overall Ronaldo in the final match to achieve a flawless weekend.
Others resonate with these sentiments as they prepare their squads and mental resilience for the impending challenge. “Can’t wait to play against ICONs every game,” commented another user.
“It is unfortunate if you have to use loan players in your weekend league teams,” argued a third participant.
Fortunately, most Base ICONs are generally not considered game-changers, which players are likely to receive from the SBC. However, due to the early stage of the title’s life cycle, any Base Icon will still have a substantial impact.
