EA Sports FC 25 has taken a significant step by penalizing players who exit matches prematurely when the score is tied; however, this change has sparked mixed reactions due to its specific conditions.
Following the latest gameplay update, EA reported a resurgence in player activity, with two million former Ultimate Team players reactivating their accounts. This uptick in engagement has been largely attributed to Title Update 8, which many fans have hailed as the “best patch in FIFA history, ” for it tackled numerous long-standing concerns. EA subsequently released Title Update 9, introducing the ability to perform two Evolutions simultaneously while intensifying the crackdown on players who leave matches early.
Frustrations Over Match Outcome Adjustments

With the implementation of Title Update 9, players will now earn a win if an opponent disconnects during a tied match in Ultimate Team Division Rivals and Champions, as well as in co-op mode, provided that one of the following criteria is met:
- At least 45 minutes of playtime have elapsed.
- The quitting player has conceded a penalty kick.
- The quitting player has been shown a red card.
Moreover, players can acquire a win under these circumstances a maximum of five times within a 24-hour period, resetting on a daily basis. In justifying these limitations, EA stated, “Our aim, as always, is to provide a safe and fun environment free from cheating.” The development team further elaborated that this update aims to address various ways players might leave a tied match, including connection drops. However, they acknowledged that not all community frustrations would be resolved with this adjustment.
“We understand that this change will not resolve all the cases where the community has expressed frustration. However, we want to be able to make progress here, and our learnings from this initial change will help inform any further potential changes, ” EA explained.
Nonetheless, players have criticized the failure to account for those who disconnect or power off their consoles, deeming it a significant oversight.

The community reaction has been swift, with one user commenting, “It’s useless. Wow, they even choked on this one.” Another remarked, “Absolutely pointless since nobody pauses to quit at a draw, and you can’t pause when a penalty is given. The only saving grace would have been the red card quit, but now the toxic community will just dashboard when that happens!”
For the time being, players will need to contend with this new update while hoping for future enhancements that address their ongoing concerns.
