Fans of Battlefield 2042 are disheartened as EA DICE has revealed that the current seventh season will be its final one. This announcement may not be surprising to some players, as the game’s player count has been declining since its release in November 2021.
Despite the negative aspects, there is a silver lining. EA and DICE have also announced their focus on the future of the Battlefield franchise.
Despite EA DICE announcing that they will no longer provide content updates for Battlefield 2042, players can rest assured that the game will not be shutting down in the near future. General Manager Byron Beede has reassured fans that server and gameplay maintenance will continue, along with the addition of new events, challenges, and modes in the coming months.
Despite his previous statement, he emphasized that Season 7, Turning Point will mark the final seasonal content release for the game. In order to fully realize the game’s ambitious vision and tap into the vast potential of its class-based squad-play and immersive, intense battles, EA DICE has enlisted the help of EA Motive, the team behind Dead Space, for future development of Battlefield games.
In regards to the future of the Battlefield series, General Manager Byron Beede assured players that the franchise will continue to be defined by the passion of its community and its team-driven tactics and explosive battles. He expressed his excitement for the day when they can reveal more about what is to come.
Ever since its release, Battlefield 2042 has experienced a decline in its player base, as many players have chosen to either go back to previous Battlefield games or switch to other first-person shooter titles.
At present, Steam has a concurrent player base of 10,128 players for Battlefield 2042. The all-time peak for the game is 107,006 players. However, Battlefield 2042 is not among the most popular games on Steam, which may be why EA DICE has chosen to focus on other projects.
