Ed Sheeran explains why he gave ‘Love Yourself’ to Justin Bieber

Fans of Ed Sheeran were taken aback when he revealed the reason behind his decision to give Justin Bieber the hit song ‘Love Yourself’.

During his performance at Hard Rock Live located at the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino on May 3, Ed Sheeran revealed the unexpected motivation for releasing his chart-topping single ‘Love Yourself.’

It was revealed that his friends did not give the song as high of a rating as he did.

The renowned British singer-songwriter then proceeded to tell the audience that he played the song for Justin Bieber, who showed interest in including it in his collection. “I happily gave it to him and it became a huge success,”he added with a chuckle.

In 2016, ‘Love Yourself’ achieved immense success by topping the Billboard Hot 100 Year-End list, making Bieber the youngest artist in the publication’s history to have a No. 1 track on the chart.

In response to the song’s success, Sheeran shared that his friends had questioned why he had originally given it away. He playfully recalled telling them, “‘You told me it wasn’t good.’”as the Grammy-winner laughed along with the audience.

He proceeded to inform his fans that one of the benefits of writing a song is the ability to “always play it,”and then proceeded to perform ‘Love Yourself’ for the concertgoers at Hard Rock Live.

The ‘Afterglow’ singer revealed on Friday that he is currently working on new music, but has no intentions of releasing it anytime soon. In an exclusive interview with People, he stated, “I won’t be putting anything out this year. Right now, I am focused on enjoying my time on tour.”

“Last year, I went on tour and released two records, which was quite a lot to handle. As a result, I have decided to take a break and hold onto my new music for a while.”
