Effective Counterattack Strategies for The First Berserker Khazan

Effective Counterattack Strategies for The First Berserker Khazan

In The First Berserker: Khazan, players have access to a range of offensive and defensive strategies crucial for gaining the upper hand in combat. Among these strategies, mastering the counterattack stands out as a vital skill, especially when facing unblockable burst attacks that cannot be blocked or executed with a Perfect Dodge.

Understanding how and when to execute this move is essential for survival against formidable foes and bosses in The First Berserker: Khazan. In this guide, I will provide insights on mastering the counterattack.

Mastering the Counterattack in The First Berserker: Khazan

The primary purpose of the counterattack is to nullify unblockable burst attacks launched by powerful enemies and bosses. Players should look for specific cues indicating these attacks:

  • Khazan will be highlighted with a “P” symbol.
  • A unique sound effect precedes the burst attack animation.
  • A quick red flash appears around the enemy’s weapon or attack zone.

To successfully execute the counterattack, press LB + B (or L1 + Circle) precisely when the attack animation connects with Khazan.

Perfecting the timing of your counterattack involves closely observing the animation. It’s best to activate the counter just as the enemy’s attack hits; timing it too early or too late will result in damage to Khazan instead.

When executed correctly, a counterattack fully restores your stamina, allowing for multiple follow-up strikes.

While it may seem challenging, the clarity of the attack animations in The First Berserker: Khazan makes recognizing the moment of impact relatively easy. The timing for counterattacks is also quite similar to that of perfect guards, creating a smooth transition for players mastering these mechanics.

Counterattacking Normal Attacks: Is It Effective?

In theory, you can counterattack most standard incoming attacks, but a few critical points should be considered. First, using a counterattack on a normal attack will not provide any stamina restoration. Secondly, the counterattack is executed in two distinct phases: an initial deflection of the incoming attack followed by Khazan’s response attack.

These two phases are definite against burst attacks, but against a regular attack, the response phase can be interrupted if the enemy is performing a swift multi-hit combo.

To clarify, here are two distinct combat scenarios:

In the first scenario, an enemy executes a rapid combo attack. Although I can initiate a counterattack, my response is halted by the enemy’s combo, resulting in damage instead of retaliation. This situation showcases how counterattacking can be counterproductive, especially familiar to players of fighting games.

In the second scenario, the same enemy launches a slower attack which might include a follow-up. Given my counterattack is fast enough, it lands successfully and deals enough damage to defeat the enemy. This demonstrates when a counterattack can be advantageous.

So, should you use counterattacks against regular enemies? The answer depends significantly on the nature of their attacks. If you’ve encountered an enemy or boss numerous times and know their attack patterns well, using a counterattack can yield substantial damage. However, in many cases, utilizing a perfect guard might be the more effective option.

Moreover, since counterattacking a regular attack does not replenish any stamina, this consideration is crucial to avoid exhausting Khazan unnecessarily.
