Effective Methods for Nuclear Waste Disposal in Satisfactory

Effective Methods for Nuclear Waste Disposal in Satisfactory

Nuclear waste, particularly Uranium Waste, can be quite troublesome in Satisfactory. At first, there’s no feasible method to dispose of this waste, as they aren’t utilized in any production lines, leading to it being considered a “useless” resource. Because you cannot sink them in an Awesome Sink, you’ll encounter radiation issues wherever they are stored. Fortunately, there’s a trick for managing this Nuclear Waste. Here’s how to permanently handle Nuclear Waste or Uranium Waste in Satisfactory.

While operating Nuclear Power Plants, you’ll require Uranium Fuel Rods as a fuel source. After these rods are completely utilized, they will produce Uranium Waste. Since Uranium Waste doesn’t disappear, it’s advisable to store it in an Industrial Storage Container loop, as illustrated in the image above.

The necessity to stockpile them arises due to the lack of disposal methods until you reach Tier 8 – Particle Enrichment milestone, which unlocks Non-Fissile Uranium, a Particle Accelerator, and additional technologies. Once you’ve acquired this technology, you’ll find a way to effectively use the Uranium Waste. If the milestone takes too long to achieve, you’ll need to enhance your storage facilities to prevent Uranium Waste from overwhelming your power setup.

Here are the required production lines in order:

  • 1 Water Extractor (underclocked to 30 Water per minute)
  • 1 Blender producing Nitric Acid
  • 1 Refinery creating Sulfuric Acid
  • 2 Constructors manufacturing Silica (underclocked to 66.66667 or 25 Silica per minute)
  • 2 Blenders making Non-Fissile Uranium (Water byproduct directed to Refinery for Sulfuric Acid production)
  • 4 Constructors creating Concrete
  • 1 Particle Accelerator producing Plutonium Pellets
  • 4 Constructors making Concrete
  • 4 Assemblers crafting Encased Plutonium Cells

It is crucial that the water byproduct from the two Blenders is merged and connected to the Refinery creating Sulfuric Acid. The exact ratios will ensure a self-sustaining water supply for the Refinery. Nonetheless, you’ll need to initiate the production first by feeding the Water Extractor into the Blender and Refinery to begin acid production.

Once the Refinery produces at least two batches of Sulfuric Acid, you can eliminate the pipeline leading from the Water Extractor to the Refinery, allowing it to depend solely on the byproduct from the Blenders.

This is the initial configuration for producing Plutonium Fuel Rods using 100 Uranium Waste per minute at 100% efficiency. Each Nuclear Power Plant generates 10 Uranium Waste per minute at maximum efficiency, meaning you’ll require 10 Nuclear Power Plants for each Plutonium Fuel Rod production line.

To scale up the production, simply double each of the production lines listed.

Below are the raw materials needed for the production line:

  • Uranium Waste
  • Quartz for Silica
  • Sulfur to Sulfuric Acid (requires Sulfur and Water)
  • Nitrogen Gas to Nitric Acid (requires Water and Iron Plate)
  • Limestone for Concrete
  • Water

Here are additional resources you may want to acquire in limited quantities, as establishing a full production line for them would be excessive:

  • Steel Beams
  • Electromagnetic Control Rods
  • Heat Sinks
  • Iron Plates

While more resources are needed, it’s advisable to gather them from your automated stockpiles. The entire production line does not require these resources in large quantities, so utilizing a train transport system or a drone delivery system to bring them can be more efficient. If you find yourself lacking these resources, setting up an automated production line solely for these items could be a solution, but it’s often more beneficial to scale up your existing production methods and distribute the resources to your Plutonium production site.

After you’ve produced the Plutonium Fuel Rods, you can sink them into an Awesome Sink. Indeed, all this effort to manage Uranium Waste! The rationale for this is that using Plutonium Fuel Rods in Nuclear Power Plants will just lead to more waste—this time, Plutonium Waste.

The optimal Nuclear Power configuration is to have it running indefinitely, and if you have a strategy to manage the waste, it’s wise to adopt that approach to avoid future issues. However, running Uranium Fuel Rods as the primary fuel source for the plants is still viable if you don’t encounter problems with Uranium Waste.
