The Rocky Port Incident took place during the two-year time skip in the One Piece universe, generating significant buzz among fans. Although Oda didn’t detail the event in the manga itself, he later provided insights during a Q&A session.
Post-time skip, One Piece references the Rocky Port Incident, which involves key figures in the narrative. Koby achieved fame as a Marine Hero, similar to his mentor, Garp. Nonetheless, the manga stops short of elaborating on the intricacies of the event.
Fortunately for enthusiasts, Oda addressed this topic in a Q&A featured in Weekly Shonen Jump, where he tackled ten significant questions about the series. The ninth question focuses on shedding light on the Rocky Port Incident.

The inquiry put forth was, “Could you elaborate on the Rocky Port Incident that led to Koby being celebrated as a Hero?”
In response, Oda stated, “Detailing this would require too much time, and I don’t foresee it being depicted in the main storyline, but here’s a brief overview of the Rocky Port Incident.” He explained that upon discovering the Pirate Island housed a significant Poneglyph, Law hijacked a large passenger vessel named the Rocky Port to access the island.
“Coincidentally, this ship was carrying a king and several prominent noble figures from a certain nation. However, the vessel Law intended to board turned out to be a smuggling ship, bearing the same country’s flag and engaged in illicit activities with Pirate Island, which led to severe complications.
“As a result, Law faced off against the pirates, and not long after, both Koby and Blackbeard arrived independently on the island, each with their own motives, ultimately leading the three to collaborate. Consequently, in the aftermath of this incident, Blackbeard emerged as the King of Pirate Island, Law was acknowledged as one of the Seven Warlords of the Sea, and Koby gained the title of hero.”
Thus, the Rocky Port Incident marked a peculiar temporary alliance between Law, Koby, and Blackbeard. However, this collaboration didn’t persist, as they returned to being adversaries thereafter. During the Egghead Incident Arc, Blackbeard decimated Law’s crew, with Law narrowly escaping with his life.
Moreover, Blackbeard captured Koby, imprisoning him in Hachinosu until Garp and the SWORD Members intervened for his rescue.
Currently, the One Piece manga is unfolding the Land of the Gods Arc, so check out the release date and spoilers for Chapter 1131.
