Elden Ring developers discuss strange Steam Deck bug following patch 1.12 release

Elden Ring players have experienced technical problems on the Steam Deck following the installation of the 1.12 update.

On Thursday, June 20th, FromSoftware released the 1.12 patch for Elden Ring on all platforms. The update included support for the Shadow of the Erdtree DLC and also allowed players to ride their Spectral Steed during the final boss fight, which was a highly anticipated feature.

Despite the game’s recent changes being well-received, the RPG is currently experiencing technical difficulties that specifically affect its performance on Steam Deck.

Upon the patch’s release, Steam Deck users discovered that if the device was left idle for a couple of minutes, the game would become unplayable.

FromSoftware, the developer of the game, promptly acknowledged the issue in a post on Twitter and X, cautioning players that if their Steam Deck is left idle for more than 5 minutes, the game may not register any input from the player.

The post also mentions that the Elden Ring developers are currently addressing the Steam Deck bug and are working on a hotfix to resolve it. However, the exact date and time of the update’s release is still unknown.

Prior to the resolution of the issue, players could attempt to bypass it by saving at a Site of Lost Grace and fully closing the game if they needed to temporarily leave.

Despite this minor hiccup, the latest 1.12 update for Elden Ring introduces a plethora of beneficial quality-of-life improvements to the gameplay. Some adjustments specifically cater to PC users, granting them greater control over map settings using their mouse and keyboard.

The patch brings new customization options, items, and Summoning Pool features that are accessible to all users. Additionally, numerous weapon adjustments have been made, with some weapons receiving increased damage while the effects of others have been reduced.

The upcoming addition of Shadow of the Erdtree, the highly anticipated expansion for Elden Ring, will introduce players to the uncharted territory of the Shadow Lands and set the stage for even more changes to come.
