Elden Ring Director Hints at Possible Return to the Lands Between

Speculations Around Elden Ring’s Future

In a recent interview, Hidetaka Miyazaki, the mastermind behind Elden Ring, hinted at the possibility of revisiting the enchanting Lands Between. This announcement has piqued the interest of fans eager to hear more about what FromSoftware is currently developing.

The concluding moments of Shadow of the Erdtree may not have resolved every plot point, but it certainly left the door open for future storytelling. The ambiguity surrounding which ending is considered canonical adds an interesting layer to the potential for sequels, much like the flexible timelines seen in series such as The Legend of Zelda.

Possible Spin-Offs and Multimedia Expansions

Miyazaki addressed queries regarding the Elden Ring series by stating, “Currently, we are not exploring the idea of ‘Elden Ring 2′.” He further elaborated, “This does not imply the end of our engagement with the Elden Ring intellectual property.” The director indicated that FromSoftware is expanding its horizons with various projects in development, leaving fans excited about what’s to come.

Although a direct sequel may not be in the works, the studio could be contemplating spin-off projects, such as a prequel that chronicles the downfall of the Lands Between. Expanding the universe into different formats such as anime, live-action series, or films is also a possibility, as the rich lore of Elden Ring provides ample material for adaptation.

However, the future direction of FromSoftware may be influenced by ongoing corporate developments, including Sony’s potential acquisition of Kadokawa. If this acquisition proceeds, it could place the creators of Elden Ring under the PlayStation umbrella, potentially prioritizing any forthcoming media projects.

It’s worth noting that Miyazaki’s statements might have been intentionally vague to maintain an element of surprise. While there are no confirmed plans for Elden Ring 2, the chance of future developments cannot be dismissed.

As things stand, fans are keenly focused on the realm of Bloodborne and the potential it holds for the franchise.
