Elden Ring ‘s DLC, Shadow of the Erdtree, sports a hefty price tag. Surprisingly, potential players are not deterred at all.
Get up, Tarnis. The Elden Ring DLC is here and the Shadow of the Erdtree trailer has people extremely excited. Not even the looming threat of a Deathplague Swamp or Malenia 2.0 can dampen their excitement.
Fans of the base game have been keeping their ears peeled for any possible details about the DLC, such as the identity of the mysterious Messmer. One detail we know about has sparked a surprising reaction from fans.
The high price of Elden Ring DLC, at €39.99, would normally send potential players into a frenzy. Not for Elden Ring. Fans took it as a sign that we are in the presence of something special.
worth noting that the reaction to the $40 elden ring dlc price isn’t the usual “damn that’s expensive” instead it’s “damn it must be massive and likely worth the price!” From has earned that trust, esp. since elden ring was like 3 games in one pic.twitter.com/TcYfE7ht4J

Gene Park took to X to comment on a trend they had noticed regarding the Shadow of the Erdtree price discussion. Despite costing almost twice as much as the Dark Souls 3 Season Pass – which included two expansions – players weren’t complaining.
The trust that FromSoftware has cultivated with its previous titles and their respective DLC means that players are more than happy to pay the price of entry. “FromSoftware literally never goes wrong with DLC. No doubt in my mind that this will be the best $40 I’ve ever spent in my life,” one player explained.
“Looking at FromSoftware’s history with Artorius of the Abyss, Old Hunters, and Ringed City, it’s safe to say we still haven’t played the best game of Elden Ring,” another player responded. “The Elden Ring DLC could have cost $200 and I would have bought it,” said another.
FromSoftware president Hidetaka Miyazaki said Shadow of the Erdtree would be the developer’s biggest expansion to date. Given their history of exceeding expectations, it seems the company thinks the Elden Ring DLC is well worth its staggering price tag.
Players have made comparisons between the price of Shadow of the Erdtree and that of Cyberpunk 2077’s game-saving expansion, Phantom Liberty.
If the amount of content in Elden Ring’s DLC is comparable to CD Projekt RED’s most recent effort, the excitement will be understandable.
