The Shadow of the Erdtree DLC for Elden Ring introduced a fresh scaling mechanic. However, for those who are not interested in it, a new mod allows you to completely disregard it.
Discussing any expansion from FromSoftware may seem expected, but the difficulty of Elden Ring’s Shadow of the Erdtree DLC is noteworthy. In fact, the added bosses have proven so challenging that players have lowered its Steam rating to ‘mixed’, citing the punishing nature of the new content.
The main reason for this is because the DLC focuses more on a new scaling system rather than your levels and build crafting. In order to match the strength of enemies in the Land of Shadow, players can gather Scadutree Fragments to increase their damage and resistances.
Increasing your Scadutree blessing level significantly improves the gameplay of Shadow of the Erdtree, but the task of collecting all the Fragments can be quite time-consuming. If that doesn’t appeal to you, the Normalized DLC Damage mod eliminates this new system entirely.
Miquella’s Crosses are a good source of Scadutree Fragments for those without the mod.
To those curious about the mechanics behind it, the Shadow of the Erdtree DLC in Elden Ring serves as a leveling factor for characters regardless of their stats. When entering the Land of Shadow, players with advanced characters will have comparable levels of both inflicted and received damage.
To alleviate this issue, players can collect Scadutree Fragments and use them to boost their damage and defense in the DLC area. This requires finding all 50 fragments in order to achieve the highest level of enhancements.
The Normalized DLC Damage mod makes three adjustments to align the DLC with the core Elden Ring experience:
- The incoming and outgoing DLC damage will be adjusted to mirror that of the base game.
- The damage and resistance of Spirit Summon will be adjusted to match that of the base game.
- The DLC entirely replaces Scadutree Fragments with Rune Arcs.
Players who wish to avoid being hindered by a search for collectibles will greatly appreciate this feature. However, the mod’s creator did include a minor disclaimer. They stated, “The mod was only tested on a new character with no Scadutree fragments collected, so it is unclear how it will affect saves that have already collected some.”
Additionally, it should be mentioned that the mod is exclusively accessible to PC players. Console players will have to accept the fact that they will have to grind for the Scadutree Fragment in Elden Ring Shadow of the Erdtree.
