Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree Sets New Records as Highest Rated DLC of All Time

With Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree receiving reviews, the accolades keep coming as it becomes not only the top-rated DLC for a FromSoftware game, but also the highest-rated DLC ever.

Despite not having an official release date, the highly anticipated next installment of Elden Ring is already garnering universal praise from early reviews.

The resounding applause for Shadow of the Erdtree, which currently holds the highest rating of any expansion on Metacritic, solidifies its position as the new king of DLC.

Shortly after the review embargo for the expansion was lifted, the news of this achievement surfaced. An influx of perfect scores and accolades followed, propelling Shadow of the Erdtree to an impressive overall rating of 95.

Immediately, fans noticed how this DLC was already surpassing FromSoftware’s previous creations. The highest-rated DLC in the developer’s catalog was Astorias of the Abyss for the original Dark Souls, with a rating of 89.

Although a mere six-point gap may appear insignificant, it is actually quite remarkable when considering the number of reviews used to calculate these scores.

Even though fans of Shadow of the Erdtree were already impressed, they were even more amazed when they discovered that this score not only surpasses the rest of FromSoftware’s DLC library, but also exceeds the entire history of DLC.

In the past, The Witcher 3’s Blood and Wine held the top spot with a score of 92. This expansion was released in 2016 and remained at the top of the list for eight years until it was surpassed by the expansion for Elden Ring.

This is a major accomplishment for Shadow of the Erdtree, achieved even before its release. It will undoubtedly amplify the already-high levels of anticipation for the DLC.

Thankfully, the wait for fans will not be much longer, as Shadow of the Erdtree is set to be released on June 21.
