Exciting Reveal: Elden Ring Nightreign Unveiled at the Game Awards 2024
During the much-anticipated Game Awards 2024, a teaser trailer was unveiled for Elden Ring Nightreign. This intriguing title succeeds the acclaimed Elden Ring from 2022, but it’s important to note that it isn’t a direct sequel. Rather, Nightreign is designed as a cooperative multiplayer roguelike, harnessing fundamental gameplay elements from the original Elden Ring.
What to Expect in the Game
The trailer, which runs for just three minutes, provides a tantalizing preview of various environments players will explore, alongside a roster of heroes to choose from. For comprehensive details about Nightreign, viewers can refer to the video description or visit the official website. It’s worth emphasizing that Nightreign is a standalone title, not just an expansion pack.
Players will not start with custom character creation, a staple of FromSoftware’s Souls series. Instead, they will select from eight distinct heroes, each equipped with unique abilities. As a hallmark of roguelike games, players can enhance their characters with every playthrough. While the game does support solo play, it is primarily designed for cooperative gameplay with up to three participants. Teams will collaborate to survive a perilous three-day journey, aiming to defeat a formidable boss on the final night.
Nostalgic Elements and Character Selection
The trailer also showcases familiar foes from the Dark Souls universe, including the notorious Nameless King, thanks to its co-publishing by Bandai Namco. However, it’s unlikely that enemies from Bloodborne will make an appearance, primarily due to the publishing rights held by Sony.
Upcoming Network Test and Release Expectations
Currently, no official release date for Nightreign in 2025 has been confirmed. However, a network test is scheduled for February, with registration opening on January 10. Interested players can sign up for notifications through the official website. Based on this timeline, it’s reasonable to speculate that the game’s launch may occur around mid-2025 at the earliest.
Elden Ring Nightreign will be available on PlayStation 4 and 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC platforms. It is important for prospective players to note that the upcoming network test will currently be exclusive to PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S.
