Elden Ring’s DLC Difficulty Leads to Players Forgiving Mimic Tear Usage

Elden Ring’s Shadow of the Erdtree is incredibly punishing, possibly putting an end to the long-standing debate over the usage of Mimic Tears.

After what seemed like an endless wait, the Shadow of the Erdtree DLC for Elden Ring is finally here. This impeccable expansion elevates an already outstanding game and we can confidently give it a perfect score.

Undoubtedly, Shadow of the Erdtree, being a FromSoftware expansion, is notoriously challenging, to the point where it has surprised many players. The level of difficulty is so extreme that the DLC’s rating on Steam has shifted to ‘mixed,’ and even popular streamers like Asmongold have abandoned attempting to finish it.

Despite the challenging obstacles we faced, there may have been some positive outcomes. The overwhelming grind of Shadow of the Erdtree may have opened some players up to utilizing Spirit Summons, including the Mimic Tear.

If you are familiar with the Elden Ring community, you are likely aware of the ongoing discussion about Spirit Summons. Some members believe that utilizing them diminishes the overall experience and that defeating a boss with their help is not a genuine triumph.

The Mimic Tear has often been criticized for summoning a highly capable AI version of the player’s character, equipped with Talisman buffs. However, this is no longer the case. Numerous players on the Elden Ring Subreddit, who have encountered the powerful enemies and bosses of Shadow of the Erdtree, are now choosing to forgo using summons.

One Tarnished suggested that perhaps an easier fight or faster progress might be desired, or maybe the enjoyment of spirit summons. However, they emphasized that it doesn’t matter and players should approach the game however they want.

According to another player, the mechanic of having a second character definitely makes things easier, especially for those who don’t want to spend too much time trying to defeat a boss repeatedly. They also added that having a second character allows for a quicker resolution if they come across a boss they dislike.

Thankfully, this should finally put an end to the Spirit Summoning debates surrounding Elden Ring and Shadow of the Erdtree. It’s a much more positive outlook compared to the initial reception during the base game’s release.
