Elder Scrolls 6 Achieves Major Milestone, But It’s the Most Disappointing One So Far

The anticipation surrounding The Elder Scrolls VI has recently reached an unsettling milestone, leaving fans feeling increasingly impatient as they await news of this highly anticipated sequel.

Skyrim, the fifth installment in the acclaimed series, launched on November 11, 2011, and quickly garnered widespread recognition, including numerous awards for its groundbreaking contributions to open-world gaming. Since then, players have eagerly awaited the release of the next chapter in the Elder Scrolls saga.

In a surprising move that caught many off guard, Bethseda officially announced The Elder Scrolls VI on June 10, 2018. This revelation came a staggering 2,403 days after the initial release of Skyrim. Fast forward to January 7, 2025, and the wait has effectively doubled, with the same interval now separating fans from the latest game announcement as it did from the previous installment to its debut.

When Will We Receive More Updates on Elder Scrolls VI?

The prolonged silence surrounding The Elder Scrolls VI stands in stark contrast to Bethesda’s previous game launches, leading fans to speculate on when they might receive more information about this elusive sequel.

Meanwhile, Bethesda has been occupied with other projects, notably Starfield, which marks the studio’s first new intellectual property in 25 years. Development for Starfield kicked off late in 2015, following the success of Fallout 4, and the game finally launched in 2023.

Even with the release of Starfield, Bethesda’s work is far from finished; they are actively working on downloadable content (DLC) and large-scale updates to enhance the player experience. Additionally, rumors are circulating regarding a potential PS5 port.

Moreover, Todd Howard, the game director, has been fully engaged in his role as executive producer for both the upcoming Fallout television series (currently in production for its second season) and the newly released Indiana Jones and the Great Circle.

Given the studio’s focus on these projects, it seems likely that the next significant update regarding The Elder Scrolls VI may still be a considerable distance away. With key personnel dedicated to Starfield and other high-profile projects, fans could potentially be waiting a few more years before receiving any new information.
