Embracing Their Worst Possible Catches: The Phenomenon of Pokemon Go Trainers

While many Pokemon Go players prioritize catching high-powered ‘mon, such as rare hundos, there are also trainers who actively seek out low CP catches and level 1 Pokemon for their collections.

The creatures in Pokemon Go vary significantly in strength, even among those of the same species. This can be seen in Pikachu, where a level 50 Pikachu can have a maximum CP of 1,060, while a level 1 Pikachu only has 13 CP.

Although it is widely accepted that high CP Pokemon are more powerful and better equipped for battles and Raids, trainers can still enjoy using weaker ‘mon – as seen in a post on Reddit by a player who collects the “worst possible Pokemon.”

The accompanying screenshot from the game displayed multiple fully evolved Pokemon with CPs in the low double-digits, as well as clever names such as “Maloser”for Machamp and “Assron”for Aggron.

The poster failed to mention the Pokemon’s stats, making it unclear whether any of them are extremely rare nundos or just low-level.

Many commenters expressed their fascination with weak Pokemon, with a few showcasing their own collections.

A user humorously stated that “when the 50 CP fight league is released, you will definitely come out as the winner!”

One commenter went even further than the poster’s collection by sharing their own favorite underpowered catch: a Galarian Zapdos with a mere 45 CP and a Best Buddy ribbon.

To provide context, achieving Best Buddy status entails earning 300 hearts with a Pokemon, a task that typically takes at least a few weeks and can continue for a longer period if you are not grinding efficiently.

Keeping this in mind, it is truly impressive that the trainer was able to capture this incredibly rare Pokemon in its weakened state and dedicate time and effort towards building a friendship with it.

This serves as evidence that any Pokemon, including a level 1 Galvantula with little chance of winning a battle, can become someone’s favorite.
