Eminem Developing Stans, a Documentary About Hardcore Fans

The rapper is working on a documentary using the term “Stan” which he himself popularized in the early 2000s.

Probably one of the most influential rappers of the last generation, Eminem has always aroused a lot of fervor among his audience – the latest proof to date: the concert on Fortnite which dominated Twitch.

But beyond the field of music, the rapper has also tried other registers: notably that of the camera. Film buffs discovered him with 8 Mile in 2003, and he even went so far as to try the experience of virtual reality with Marshall From Detroit, a film during which we explore the city from his point of view through encounters. surprising.

And his cinematographic adventure will not stop there: according to Variety, Eminem is currently working on a documentary, entitled Stans, in reference to one of his most famous titles.

Eminem working on Stans, a documentary about dangerous celebrity bigotry

The term “Stan” will not be foreign to fans of the rapper, but could disconcert others. There is, however, a logic behind his creation: in his piece Stan, we are interested in a fan becoming a stalker.

The two terms mixed then give “Stan” which also turns out to be the name of the character with mortally dangerous behavior, and more broadly encompassing the culture of hardcore fans who do not hesitate to cross perilous limits.

Stuart Parr and Paul Rosenberg, Eminem’s managers, share financing with the rapper. A first explanation has already been shared: “Stans will be an opportunity for us to turn the camera around and question the audience about what it means to be a fan — and in some cases, a fanatic. It’s a study of the relationship between fandom and artist, through the lens of one of Eminem’s most compelling songs and one of the world’s most important artists.”

And what could be better for a film called Stans than to collect the testimonies of the first people concerned? Indeed, in addition to the presence of the rapper and his point of view, the documentary will show interviews with “Eminem’s most extreme fans” .

Stans will be distributed by Paramount and MTV, but nothing has yet been revealed regarding the decision between a streaming or theatrical release. The same goes for the date: although 2024 has been announced, no additional details have been revealed at this stage.
