Emperor-Like Security Byeon Woo-seok Departs Neatly for First Overseas Trip Since Controversy

On August 29th, Byeon Woo-seok set off for Sydney, Australia from Incheon International Airport to fulfill an overseas commitment.

Previously, Byeon Woo-seok received backlash for implementing strict security measures. On July 12th, before departing from Incheon International Airport for his first solo fan meeting tour “2024 Byeon Woo-seok Asia Fan Meeting Tour – Summer Letter”in Hong Kong, several security guards obstructed a public gate for 10 minutes. They proceeded to check the boarding passes of lounge users and shine flashlights at regular passengers, resulting in widespread criticism.

The situation worsened when inconsistencies emerged between the accounts provided by the security company’s representative and Incheon International Airport officials, resulting in allegations of dishonesty. Byeon Woo-seok’s agency issued a statement of regret, expressing, “We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience caused to airport users during our artist’s departure. Upon learning of the situation, we immediately requested that the security guards refrain from shining flashlights at airport users. While we were not aware of the gate and boarding pass checks taking place, we take full moral responsibility for the unpleasant incidents that occurred during the security process and extend our apologies to those affected.”

A month after the controversy, Byeon Woo-seok was seen in public for the first time at Incheon International Airport as he was getting ready to leave for Sydney, Australia. He arrived at the airport punctually and expressed his gratitude to fans who showed their support by cheering for him as he waited at the crosswalk.

As he made his way to the airport gate, he was accompanied by security guards. However, there was a noticeable decrease in their numbers compared to the previous incident where the security was akin to that of an emperor. The guards also opted to guide the crowd in a polite manner, using phrases like “Please wait a moment”, “Be careful”, and “We’re passing through.”Additionally, they reminded those who were filming and walking backwards to “Watch your step behind you.”Instead of using flashlights, the guards focused on safely guiding the crowd.

Byeon Woo-seok has modified his fan service to be more efficient. In the past, he was known for interacting with fans by shaking hands and receiving gifts at the airport. However, on this occasion, he chose to simply nod his head in acknowledgement of their cheers before continuing on. Unlike his previous visits, he did not make a stop at the lounge but instead proceeded directly to boarding after completing the check-in process, garnering attention from fans and media alike.

In the meantime, Byeon Woo-seok’s acting career took off with his debut in the 2016 tvN drama “Dear My Friends”. Recently, he has garnered much attention for his portrayal of Ryu Sun-jae in tvN’s “Lovely Runner”.
