Enabling Private Mode for Operations in Space Marine 2: A Step-by-Step Guide

Thanks to the third significant patch, Space Marine 2 has now launched a Private Mode for your operations. This allows you to engage solely with your squad without the worry of an outsider intervening or disrupting your gameplay. However, setting up a private lobby can be a bit tricky at times.

Since its release on September 9, 2023, Space Marine 2 continues to evolve. New downloadable content (DLC) is underway, bugs are actively being fixed (the glitch type, not the Tyranids), and exciting new features are being introduced.

One of the most anticipated features is the ability to create private lobbies, offering players the opportunity to team up and fight exclusively with their squad, particularly in Operations, which are the game’s brief narrative battles that exist outside of the primary missions and PvP.

If you’re eager to experience some exclusivity in Space Marine 2, here’s how to activate Private Mode for Operations.

How to Create Private Lobbies: Step-by-Step Guide

Setting up a private lobby in Space Marine 2 is straightforward. Just follow these steps:

  1. Navigate to the Operations console located in the Battle Barge.
  2. Select ‘Change Session Type‘, which will place you in a private lobby.
  3. Return to the game and modify your squad.
  4. Click the key in the top right corner to reveal your unique code.
  5. Share this code with your friends or enter their code below it to join their squad.

If a Squadmate has set up a private lobby, you’ll need to obtain their unique lobby code and enter it through the menu, following steps three to five.

Step 1: Navigate to Operations

Since this mode exclusively operates in Operations, head over to that tab for activation. You can find this by accessing the console on the Battle Barge (the ship you board for missions) or by navigating to Operations from the main menu.

Inside, you should see an interface similar to the one above, with the Private Mode option displayed in the top right corner.

Step 2: Switch to Private Session Type

If you see this option, simply press Y on Xbox (or your respective button) to toggle Private Mode. You’ll know it’s activated when it turns green and reads ‘On’.

Note that aside from the changed text, there aren’t many notifications indicating that you’ve switched to private, so keep an eye out. You might accidentally find yourself unable to join groups if you’ve clicked too many times.

Step 3: Invite Your Squad

With Private Mode turned on, it’s time to invite your selected squad. To do this, exit to the main game and select ‘Edit Squad’, which uses the same button as the one you pressed to activate Private Mode.

You can conveniently check if Private Mode is active, as the status will appear on your screen beneath the mission you’re about to engage in.

Step 4: Click the Key to Access the Code

Once you’ve decided to edit your squad, ignore the dropdown plus signs that appear. Click on the small key next to your username instead.

This action will unlock your unique lobby code, essential for inviting other players, so ensure you know who’s being invited and can relay them the code.

Step 5: Share Your Code or Input a Friend’s Code

Upon clicking the key, a unique invite code will appear at the center of the screen, allowing your friends to join your squad.

To share the code, simply relay it to your friends, who will need to input it in the ‘Join The Squad’ section and select ‘Join’.

For those receiving a code, follow the steps above to enter the code under Join The Squad. Remember, this code is likely case-sensitive, so enter it meticulously.

Alternatively, familiarize yourself with all the enemies in the game; you never know who you might encounter on your quest to eliminate heretics.
