End of One Piece in 2024: Was Eiichiro Oda wrong in his prediction?

The creator of One Piece, Eiichiro Oda, had made predictions about the end of his manga, creating confusion among his readers: was he wrong?

Launched in 1997, One Piece has maintained its rightful place among the best manga ever since. The series always ranks at the top of sales and popularity podiums. After all, it has it all: an engaging and inspiring protagonist, tragic backstories, thrilling battles, layers of mystery, relatable character design, and the list could go on.

The pitch may seem simple: the series follows Monkey D. Luffy as he sets out to sea to become the pirate king, after gathering reliable crew members. However, the story gains depth and tragedy as it travels across the different seas invented by Eiichiro Oda. The series, which has lasted for more than two decades, has even entered its final saga in 2022.

The story has become more intense than ever since the Egghead arc. The world is thrown into chaos as the balance of power continues to shift. Yet amid all the exciting events in the manga, one of Eiichiro Oda’s controversial predictions about the ending of One Piece seems way off base.

Did Eiichiro Oda make a failed prediction about the ending of his One Piece manga?

According to a report from Oricon News from 2019, Eiichiro Oda predicted the end of the One Piece manga in five years. At this time, the Wano Saga was still ongoing. Therefore, Oda’s comment about the series ending in five years had created a real buzz on the Internet.

In the same news article, editor Naito provided some details from his interview with Oda: “Honestly, when I heard Mr. Oda’s plans for the future, I couldn’t help but wonder: “Will it be finished in five years?»But Mr. Oda said it would be five years, so I believe him.”

According to Eiichiro Oda’s prediction, the manga should therefore end in 2024, which seems impossible at this stage. One Piece is currently only releasing the very first arc of the Final Saga, and it’s clear that there are still a lot of details to cover. Although the series has answered several answers with the Egghead arc, there are countless other topics still waiting to be explored.

Needless to say, One Piece fans won’t mind. After all, the series is currently at the peak of its popularity, so finishing itwithout upsetting its audience will surely be no easy feat.
