Eric, the latest mini-series from Netflix, is a thrilling ride from beginning to end, centered around Vincent, a frantic father on a mission to locate his son Edgar who has gone missing.
Eric is a combination of Taken and Sesame Street, portraying a parent’s unwavering determination to reunite with their child.
Throughout six episodes, the audience is taken on a suspenseful race against time, where they must unravel interconnected storylines in order to uncover the truth.
However, does Vincent ultimately locate Edgar by the conclusion of Eric? Additionally, what became of the other vanished child featured in the show? Let’s analyze the details.
Does Vincent find Edgar in Eric?
Indeed, at the conclusion of Eric, Vincent does succeed in locating Edgar and returning him back home.
Despite being missing for more than 48 hours, Edgar eventually reunites with Vincent and Cassie. It is later uncovered that he had taken refuge in a tunnel beneath the New York City subway.
Despite a heated argument with his father, Edgar found himself in the tunnel. Seeking refuge from his tumultuous home, he followed a local homeless man named Yuusuf down into the tunnels. However, upon entering, Edgar accidentally fell through a hatch and was trapped for several hours.
Fortunately, Yuusuf discovers a length of rope near the subway tracks and uses it to assist Edgar in climbing out of the hatch. Since he is unwilling to return home and face his parents’ ongoing arguing, Yuusuf takes on the responsibility of looking after Edgar.
Vincent ultimately finds himself pursuing a hand-drawn map created by Edgar in previous episodes, which guides him to the tunnels where his son is currently taking shelter.
Regrettably, just as he was about to locate Edgar, the New York City Sanitation Department floods the tunnels in order to eliminate the numerous homeless settlements. However, Yuusuf manages to rescue Edgar by guiding him to escape above ground through a grate.
After successfully navigating the tunnels and using the same grate to escape, Vincent manages to acquire Eric the monster’s puppet suit from Good Day Sunshine. He then heads to a televised protest in the park, where he utilizes the cameras to make a plea for Edgar to race him back home, just like they had done in Episode 1.
Edgar caught a glimpse of his father’s speech at a nearby diner and they later reunited at their apartment stoop where they shared an emotional embrace.
Marlon’s Whereabouts
Although Marlon Rochelle is mentioned in Eric, he is no longer alive.
As the search for Edgar continues, the show frequently revisits the case of Marlon Rochelle, a 14-year-old Black teenager who went missing in the same neighborhood as Edgar.
Despite her constant hounding, Cecile criticized the police for not putting in as much effort to find her son, Marlon, as they did for Edgar, possibly because of the difference in their skin color.
Despite the challenges, Detective Michael Ledroit remains determined to solve Marlon’s case. In the final episode, it is uncovered that Marlon was killed by two detectives from the Vice New York City Department.
Marlon’s murder occurred after he was paid to engage in a sexual act with New York City’s deputy mayor, Richard Costello. Marlon had been selling drugs for the two police officers, but he refused to split the profits from the incident with them.
The two detectives eventually located the pair in the back alley of The Lux nightclub. After restraining Costello, one of the police officers fatally kicked Marlon before releasing the deputy mayor.
Following the murder, the detectives contacted Bruno Di Bari, who was not only the head of the NYC Sanitation Department, but also Costello’s brother-in-law. They requested his help in disposing of Marlon’s body. Di Bari then instructed two of his workers to wrap Marlon’s body in garbage bags and transport him to the garbage landfill located off the shores of Manhattan.
Fortunately, Costello, as well as the detectives and sanitation workers, were all apprehended for their participation in the homicide.
In the last scenes of Episode 6, Cecile and Ledroit are shown standing in the landfill, desperately searching for any trace of Marlon’s remains.
Is Eric real?
No, Eric the puppet is not an actual living being, but Vincent was able to bring him to life through his talent and skill.
In the initial stages of the series, Eric was solely a creation of Edgar’s mind, frequently depicted through his drawings.
When it comes time for Vincent to make a new puppet for Good Day Sunshine, Edgar attempts to suggest the idea of using Eric, but his father disregards the suggestion.
Following Edgar’s disappearance, Vincent began experiencing hallucinations of Eric appearing and speaking to him. However, this was simply a way for him to cope with the overwhelming stress and grief of losing his son.
Nevertheless, Vincent was able to bring Eric to life by successfully convincing the show to use his puppet, just as Edgar had hoped. As a result, Good Day Sunshine created a suit for Eric to wear on set.
The Eric suit ultimately inspired Edgar to return home, leading to a reunion between the pair after their intense altercation. This could be interpreted as Eric having been present all along.
Now streaming on Netflix, Eric is a must-watch. Don’t miss out on all the other new shows available this month.
