Escape: Actor Koo Kyo-hwan Shares Thoughts on Co-star Song Kang

A café in Jongno-gu, Seoul was the setting for an interview with Koo Kyo-hwan on June 20th. Koo Kyo-hwan, who starred in the film “Escape”directed by Lee Jong-pil, discussed his role as State Security Department Major Hyun Sang. “Escape”portrays the intense pursuit between North Korean soldier Kyu Nam (Lee Je-hoon) as he attempts to escape for a better future and Major Hyun Sang, who is determined to protect the present.

In the movie, Koo Kyo-hwan portrays the character of Hyun Sang, who exudes a terrifying presence with his intense charisma and shares a secretive history with Woo Min (Song Kang), a bond that was formed while studying abroad in Russia.

Koo Kyo-hwan spoke about his colleague, Song Kang, stating that they both belong to the same agency. He noted that Song Kang’s demeanor at the agency’s 20th-anniversary celebration and other events was consistent with how he presented himself at work. According to Koo, Song Kang is a fascinating individual who displays a mix of maturity and youthful qualities. He enjoys observing and interacting with him, sometimes feeling like an older brother while other times wanting to keep him close as a younger sibling. Overall, Koo finds great delight in watching Song Kang.

Koo Kyo-hwan elaborated on Woo Min’s character in the film, stating that he embodies a sense of dissonance between reality and ideals for Hyun Sang. In Koo’s words, Woo Min can be described as a “dream-like existence”or “the place Hyun Sang yearned to reach.”Koo hopes that viewers will view Woo Min from a broader perspective.

Furthermore, the highly anticipated release of “Escape” starring the dynamic talents of Koo Kyo-hwan and Song Kang is scheduled for July 3rd.
