Well-known Twitch streamer and OTK co-founder Esfand shared his apprehension regarding Asmongold’s decision to tidy up his home as a form of “penance” for his controversial comments about Palestine.
On October 14, 2024, Asmongold was criticized for stating that Palestinians “come from an inferior culture” that conflicts with “everything western values stand for.”
In reaction to the uproar from followers and fellow streamers, Asmongold opted to step down from his leadership roles within OTK and other organizations such as Starforge. He announced his intention to clean his notoriously messy residence as a form of “penance” for his past statements and conduct.
“I’m going to attempt to clean up part of my house,” he mentioned. “I won’t hire a cleaner. Being raised Roman Catholic, I see this as a penance opportunity.”
Esfand responded to Asmongold’s video on October 22, explaining he had been wanting to discuss Asmongold’s behavior and even offered him the chance to move in with him.
However, he articulated one specific worry about Asmongold’s solitary approach to cleaning his home.
“From my perspective, my instinct is to say, ‘Great, good for you.’ But I’m concerned about this because you shouldn’t face all of life’s challenges alone. Life isn’t a single-player experience.”
“Life can have its collaborative and competitive aspects, but it’s never just an individual game. Sometimes you have to team up with someone to complete the quest.”
