As you journey through the vast and treacherous landscapes of Monster Hunter Wilds, you’ll encounter formidable monsters that demand more than just basic armor for your protection. To ensure your survival, it’s crucial to enhance your armor effectively. This guide will walk you through the steps needed to upgrade your gear and bolster your defenses against these ferocious creatures.
Upgrading Your Armor in Monster Hunter Wilds
The first step in upgrading your armor is to finish Chapter 2-2: The Eye of the Storm and venture into the Oilwell Basin region. Only after completing this mission will you gain access to armor upgrades.

Upon arriving at the campsite in the Oilwell Basin, seek out Gemma at the Smithy. Interaction with her will present you with armor upgrade options, but there are additional steps to consider before your upgrades can commence.
Acquiring Armor Spheres
To upgrade your armor, you’ll require Armor Spheres, which are essential materials necessary for leveling up your armor. These spheres can be obtained as rewards for completing quests or assignments and are categorized into five distinct types, each offering varying points for upgrades. Below is a summary of the different Armor Sphere types and their respective points:
Type | Points |
---|---|
Armor Sphere | 10 points |
Armor Sphere+ | 50 points |
Advanced Armor Sphere | 200 points |
Hard Armor Sphere | 1000 points |
Heavy Armor Sphere | 5000 points |
For Low Rank Armor pieces, you will need to complete eight upgrade levels. The initial six levels demand 30 points each, while the final two levels call for 200 points each. Conversely, High Rank Armor pieces consist of four levels, requiring 200 points for every level to achieve full upgrade potential.

Once you’ve gathered the necessary Armor Spheres, revisit Gemma and select the “Forge/Upgrade Armor” option. Here, you can choose the armor piece you wish to enhance and select the desired Armor Sphere for the upgrade process.
The upgrade panel will provide you with information about the points required to progress to the next level.
Now that you are equipped with the knowledge required to upgrade your armor, you can better prepare for the dangerous encounters that await you in Monster Hunter Wilds.
