Essential Preparations for Diablo 4 Season 6: What to Do Before You Start

Diablo 4 Season 6 and the Vessel of Hatred DLC are just around the corner, so here’s what you should do before diving into this grimdark adventure with a brand-new character.

While some players might rush into Diablo 4 Season 6 upon its release, others may prefer to lay some foundations to ensure their next playthrough goes as effortlessly as possible. Although you need to create a new character in Diablo 4 Season 6, you’ll still benefit from having completed certain actions before starting the game again.

For instance, progress you made by completing the story or playing during earlier seasons will aid your experience in Season 6, even with a new character. Below, we’ve compiled a checklist of things to accomplish before launching into Season 6 of Diablo 4, along with their importance.

Keep in mind, the following list is entirely optional, so don’t stress if you overlook a few items. Additionally, players in the Eternal Realm can play the new story missions, but will need to create a new seasonal character to engage with some content.

Diablo 4 Season 4 could introduce a fresh dynamic to the game.

What are Seasons in Diablo 4?

Seasons in Diablo 4 are not full expansions or DLC but rather an engaging way to play the game featuring unique quests and mechanics. However, some of these seasons also present small side stories to explore.

Some narratives, such as those in Season 5, contribute to the overarching storyline, though these updates can also be enjoyed in the Eternal Realm. Here’s what we suggest you do before diving into Diablo 4 Season 6.

If you’re just starting your journey in Diablo 4, it’s advisable to jump straight into Season 6. However, if you’re already progressing through Season 5 or have a non-seasonal character, we recommend completing the current story before starting Season 6.

This way, you won’t have to repeat it twice (you can skip the campaign once you’ve completed it at least once). This approach is beneficial even if you start mid-season yet finish the story in the Eternal Realm.

Choose a Character Class

This may seem obvious, but it is crucial. Are you considering playing with the same class you used in previous playthroughs? If so, be aware that when a season concludes, this character will revert to a normal non-seasonal character, similar to your other characters, which may feel redundant. Therefore, it might be worth selecting a new character class for Season 6 to discover their unique features. Perhaps even the Spiritborn?

If you’re keen on experimenting with a new build for an existing class, you can always respec them instead. We recommend using Diablo 4’s seasons as a chance to explore a new class with each season, as leveraging the unique rewards and mechanics of each season will keep the gameplay fresh and diverse.

Also, remember that you can skip the campaign in seasonal content and dive right into the endgame – provided you’ve completed Diablo 4’s story at least once in seasonal play or in the Eternal Realm.

Don’t forget that we offer a range of top-rated builds you can choose from for optimal results using any character class, whether in leveling, endgame, or PvP.

Complete the Campaign

While you’ll have the option to experience the story again in Season 6, if you want to jump directly into the new content, it’s best to skip it on your second run. Although you’ll need to build your character from scratch, the seasonal content will allow for quick progression, especially if you take advantage of World Tier increases and the Seasonal Journey steps.

So, if you’ve previously completed the campaign, feel free to skip it. Finishing the campaign before commencing Season 6 of Diablo 4 ensures you can unlock the skip option. While many players might want to replay the campaign in Season 6 with the Spiritborn, it’s nice to have the skip option available if needed. Plus, don’t forget that the campaign of Diablo 4 is quite epic and arguably a highlight of the game.

Presumably, you’ll also want to have the storyline completed and the ending witnessed before the start of Season 6 and the Vessel of Hatred DLC. Remember, if you choose to replay the campaign in Season 6, you can still opt to skip it at any time should you change your mind.

We recommend finishing the story before jumping into Season 5.

Know How to Get a Mount

A horse will significantly ease your journey in Season 6 of Diablo 4, enabling you to traverse the map quickly. To acquire one, you’ll either need to advance through the campaign until that mission becomes available or simply skip it and acquire the horse from the outset.

This is a fantastic way to hit the ground running in Season 6. However, you must have completed the campaign at least once first, as this is when your character is granted their first mount.

Find All the Altars of Lilith

The great news is that your seasonal characters in Diablo 4 will reap the benefits of any Altars of Lilith you unlocked with previous or non-seasonal characters.

By locating all 160 Altars, each of your characters will receive the following stats by default:

  • 68 Strength
  • 68 Intelligence
  • 68 Willpower
  • 68 Dexterity
  • 100 Murmuring Obols capacity
  • 4 Paragon Points

If you’ve unlocked all Altars of Lilith, then every new character you create (as well as all your existing ones) will have these enhanced stats at the onset! This will save time in character development and allow you to dive straight into Diablo 4’s seasonal content and start battling!

Of course, hunting down and activating every Altar of Lilith can be time-consuming, but you’ll only need to do it once, as the rewards will be applicable to all your characters. You’ll notice a significant power boost in all your characters once the Altars of Lilith are activated.

Unlock the Whole Map & Renown

Exploring the entire map before jumping into Season 6 of Diablo 4 is beneficial. You’ll only need to do this once, as all characters thereafter, including seasonal ones, will start the game with the entire map already unlocked.

However, if this is your first time playing, enjoy the experience and don’t stress about it. Just keep in mind, the more you explore and unlock map areas, the more Renown you’ll accumulate, which you can share with your other characters.

While this will simplify gameplay, the real advantage is that all the Renown earned from exploring the map will carry over, giving a nice boost for starting each new game.

In fact, if you skip the campaign, find all Altars of Lilith, and unlock the entire map, you’ll begin Season 5 with a total of 3135 Renown right from the outset. This includes 10 level-up points and all the additional stats from the Altars, ensuring your new characters have the best possible start.

Know Your Legendary Aspects

Any Legendary Aspects you acquired in your pre-Season 6 playthroughs will not carry over. The game will prompt you to locate them and tackle the various dungeons and bosses again.

To ensure you can head straight to the optimal locations in Season 5 for unlocking the Aspects you need, take note of the dungeons and Aspects that are most beneficial to your build.

If you’ve explored the entire map, you’ll be able to pinpoint their locations from the beginning, but it’s advantageous to know which ones to prioritize. Doing so will make things easier in the long run.
